Yep...12:15 AM (or 0015 for you military types)...you can beat that there was alcohol invoved. Even with a signal charge I would NEVER point my artillery at any structure.  I'm not eve sure I could do it if I was told "it's okay, go ahead".

Plus, you always have to be suspicious in these spousal accidental deaths.

I saw this Yahoo article today and that led me to here. Here's a few of the comments made.

Yes, I saw this morning that he was arrested.   And deservedly so.  Powder from fireworks!   Homemade "cannon".
As every one here agrees:  When you light the fuse...  you must be sure that you have a safe cannon and not a pipe bomb.
As with every firearm, muzzle control.  Safe, well thought out, proceedures.  Need we say no alcohol or drugs!

I have an old JD 410 backhoe...  back yard machine...

Sometimes it is necessary for the wife to roll things into the bucket or otherwise get within the swing of the bucket.  I've had to remind her on several occasions not to go into the danger zone until I have my hands off the controls.  I told her "If I ever hit her with the thing, no one would ever believe it was an accident!"

Those things do happen too! There is a fellow on another forum who ended up running his wifes legs over with a tractor.... she lost one leg and has partial use of the other, she had a very long hospital stay and it was killing him you could read it in the things he wrote, she is now home and has a long road to recovery but she's a tough cookie and this all happened to people in their late 60's early 70's....So be careful with the heavy equipment out there.......
Now back to cannon accidents......... I hope there will be some photo's released of the alleged cannon from this sad event we may glean what happened it sounds like the tube exploded......

I am somewhat confused about the description of the event.  Things like buried in the ground, cannon and mortar used to describe the device, and wife killed by shrapnel.

Not sure that is a positive in this case as now they associate us with bubba and his killer cannon.......
so what did they have to say after they got the link?

Mortar like device.  Pointed away from trailer.  26" barrel with welded breach.  pyrotechnic powder lit with fuse.  Tube ruptured, woman injured by scrapnel...  died.

This article has a much better explanation than the earlier articles.  He in effect made a "mortar" that turned out to be a bomb.

Can you imagine what position that guy would be in if he had come here and told us what he wanted to build and we told him it was unsafe....the prosecutor would love to find something like that.

They never commented on air and never replied to the message. Not much comedy value in the awesome projects you all build ;)
