This is taken from Ron Paul's speech in Idaho Falls, Id. Ron Paul might not win the Republican nomination, but he has awakened a movement in this country that will not go away! This new generation is seeing through this left vs Right crap, and see's it for what it really is......One snake, two heads.

As to the first half of that statement, you are clearly correct (no surprise there, at least to me).  As to the second half, I HOPE you are correct.

Paul explains that “The easiest place to start the cutting would be overseas spending” as there is no constitutional authority to spend money on foreign aid.

I am in absolute agreement with this.

Quote

“Spending money on the military is not the same as spending money on defense,” insisted the Air Force veteran. As both Paul and his supporters have asserted (contrary to the claims of his detractors and the other candidates) the military is harmed in myriad ways when American plays the role of global police force, rather than keeping the men and women of the armed forces at home, ready to defend our country as the Constitution provides.

Any vet that has served in combat since the Vietnam War (and probably to Include the Vietnam War) that are not war mongers should completely understand this.

Quote
The federal government wouldn’t be so obsessed with spending money if they didn’t have so many departments to keep running, proffered Dr. Paul. To that end, he recommended eliminating five federal agencies as a good first step toward reducing the bureaucratic behemoth that straddles the Potomac. The first five departments to face the constitutional guillotine would be: Education, Housing and Urban Development, Energy, Commerce, and Interior. Jettisoning this handful of federal departments alone would reduce the federal budget by about $179 billion.

You can add the US Customs and US Border Patrol to this list.  Just have our military patrol our borders and boundary waters.

Quote
Finally, Paul fed the frenzy by announcing his determination to repeal “tyrannical laws like the Patriot Act and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)

Even a a State level of government, I have never see a more abused act like the patriot act.  Every excuse in the world to violate your privacy is in the Patriot act.

Ron Paul does have a lot going for him.......I fully agree with a lot of his ideas.

I would love to see him go to work with his fiscal chainsaw.

"Ron Paul might not win the nomination." Correction: Ron Paul can't win the nomination, impossible at this point. In fact, the only one that could is Santorum if he beats Newt in AL & MS next week and then Newt drops out, which is very unlikely, even if Newt loses next week, too much ego. So really it's over for sure for Paul who sadly has not won a single State I can think of. I thought he might get ND, but he did not.  Newt can't be nominated either.

I would love to see Mr. Paul picked as Treasury Sec., since the money side is his forte, but with Romney that won't happen

LOL! Don't waste your time doing that!
My question was actually Who is the real conservative, not who's going to win.I guess I find it odd in this election I clearly see a Constitutional patriot  that personifies the platform of the Republican party, running against a host of NWO Neo-Cons and the majority of voters in the Republican party cannot see it. This is just the way I see it, and was curious about the way others on the forum feel!

As far as Paul working for one of these shills in a puppet position........Don't bet the farm on it.
I don't look at his being in this race as a failure! "Quite the opposite" He starts people to thinking, and that is something the Gooberment hates. They don't want us to think. They just want us to follow. Who knows! We could even see TWO REAL parties running this election. Not just the two heads of the snake ;) OH! Heck, I forgot........That would just be like voting for Obama ::)

I could see RP being more effective inside an administration than in congress.
but if you would rather see someone else as treasury secretary, I won't start e-mailing.

I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

I don't think his run was a failure either. If it starts a movement & I think it did, that's great.

But there is no need to think he has a chance now, he doesn't.

Not enthusiasm, just the only option that could make a difference. The Republicans are moveing toward the destructions of freedoms just as fast as the Democrats are. ear

It was either enthusiasm or self-delusion.  Unless, you missed the talk of "ground swells" of support and how RP was the only choice who could "easily" beat obama.

I noticed you didn't bother to address the second half of his statement PM... But hey, a slightly less socialist President is ok.  Kinda like Coke and Diet Coke.

The best thing a Mainstream candidate could do right now is to get RP to agree to run with him as Vice President.  That would unite that candidates followers and the RP crowd.  But none of the current mainstream lineup is that smart.

So you're saying that RP is not mainsteam.  I think much of his thinking is quite mainstream and that a lot of folks who believe as he does probably consider themselves to be fairly mainstream.  However, Ron Paul does have some ideas that I don't agree with as do the rest of the Republican candidates.

I absolutely refuse to allow the so-called "mainstream media" to define what is mainstream.  There is absolutely nothing mainstream about Barrack Hussein Obama, but his sycophantic apologists in the media think he is the epitome of normal and reasonable.  They are the radicals--he (Obama) is the pied piper of abnormal, fanatics and lunatics.

Well I should clairify that I consider "Mainstream" anything propped up by Mass Media.  RP while getting some coverage was blacked for quite a large portion of his campaign.  I do think that he is well liked by the majority of Americans because of his pro constitution and anti spending stances.  However the big money isn't behind him so he gets left behind despite having quite a large following that would vote for him in a 3rd party setting.

But if you combine his ethics inside one of the Mainstream candidates then I think you would see a nice condensing of both parties of supporters into one large party that would actually stand a chance of beating Obama.

But I think without RP running as a VP choice then your going to see that 90's Perot era split in votes that will ultimately lead to Obama getting re-elected.
