Man accused of posing as volunteer, stealing food by AP WHAS11.com Posted on March 8, 2012 at 8:52 AM WEST LIBERTY, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky State Police have arrested a man who they say tried to pose as a volunteer and steal food meant for storm victims.
Police say 54-year-old Daniel Leland was charged with second-degree robbery in connection with the incident.
Trooper Endre Samu told the Lexington Herald-Leader that Leland was arrested Monday at a Red Cross shelter in West Liberty after he gathered a large amount of food items and tried to leave (
http://bit.ly/wzgiPs). Samu said Leland threated Red Cross workers who questioned him about taking the food.
He told officers who recovered the food from his van that he was taking it to be distributed in another county.
Leland was being held Thursday at the Big Sandy Detention Center, which had no information on whether he had an attorney.
