Newbie questions
« on: March 08, 2012, 10:41:49 AM »
Hope to go to South Dakota this year with the wife and kids....

How close do you park/set up on the pd towns?

How long between shots?/How long do they stay down?

What time of day are they most active?

I would guess you shoot the close ones first with the .22 an 17HMR then go after the farther ones with the .243?

I have set up right in the middle of towns before , their not real smart critters .  ;D

Time between shots depends on the amount of dogs , air temp , sunny or overcast , I've had 3 rifles cooling while shooting the forth there were so many to shoot at .

As for how long they stay down depends on how often their shot at , if once or twice a year , they come up fairly quickly , if they have been shot at alot , it could be awile  .

They tend to go underground during the heat of the afternoon , just like us , they don't like too much heat .

Stimpys right about them being dumb.I remember the day he was talking about the 3 rifles cooling. He fired the forth rifle until it was to hot and then borrowed one of my bolt guns and killed the critter that he had been shooting at for over and hour with the first shot. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  Digger

Very funny Digger , if I remember correctly , Fuzzy , Dano and yourself also had rifles cooling under the trucks that day .  :o

Thank stimpy!  The answers were pretty much as expected, but the heat affecting them was a surprise.

If we go I hope we have good luck.  I found a place in SD that charges $135 (housing included) per day for adults and kids are free.  It is the best deal i've been come across so far.

Any other tips or thoughts appreciated ...
