More Moose Stompings
« on: March 09, 2012, 05:40:49 AM »
Can't remember if this has been mentioned or not.  This is more common up here than reported.  Close calls don't get mentioned or reported.  And often the folks that get stomped are not in town and no one hears about it unless they have to go to the hospital.  this time of the year the Moose are stressed.  If I see one I give them a wide berth.  I've had them rear up and knock the windows out of my school bus.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Sitting here listening to the radio after making this post.  They are reporting a Moose hanging around the school in Healy Alaska.  A small town just North of Denali Park.  Seems this Moose is hanging around and chasing people near the school.  Troopers were called, and when the Moose would not leave, they were forced to shoot the Moose.

Things like this might be classified as sensational to others, it is nothing but an annoyance here.  Big animals that can do a lot of damage.

Back in 1995 a Moose was hanging around one of the building on UAA Campus. (University of Alaska Anchorage)  Kids started throwing snowballs to drive the Moose away.  The Moose moved along and the students went about their business.  One of the professors was moving from one building to another and did not notice the Moose.  The Moose ran up behind the professor and struck him one time with a front hoof in the back, right between the shoulder blades.  The strike shattered the professors spine, killing him.  This attack was caught on video by a security cam.

There is a story here in Wyo, supposed to have happened quite awhile ago. Late in the winter moose do not like to be forced into the snow. The highway was plowed between Pinedale and Jackson and a moose had declaired it her territory. An impatient woman in a small red car pulled up to the moose and demanded the right of way. They say the moose ran over the top of the car, then turned around and ran over it again and again and again, till the car was not worth much anymore.

  Know what you mean Sourdough;
  My sister & Bro-in-law live on Green Acres Lane..just off Chena hot Springs road between North Pole & F'banks.  Sis has sent me pics taken from in the house, of moose looking at her through their picture window.  Bears also roam their back yard.
   They often keep a 45/70 by their kitchen door and a 12 ga with slugs in the gargae..just in case.
   They haven't been forced to shoot anything yet, but my bro-in-law was once kept in his garage for 2 hours, waiting out a surly cow.
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)
