Dicks clearance
« on: March 10, 2012, 03:12:01 PM »
Went into Dicks which is unusual for me.  Went over to the guns, naturaly,  They had clearance Handi combos  for $149.  They were Mossy Oak fiberglass stocks.  The 2 left were a .308 (bull) and either a .204 of 22?  (I don't varmint, so lost interest there).   The scopes were 4-12, the clerk didn't unwrap enough to see the brand.

Now, if I only had a way to come up with $150 plus tax right now.   I may go to another Dicks, or call.  A .308 would do exactly what I need, except I don't have dies.  If there was one in 06 I have dies.  I actually went in asking if they by any chance had .35 Remington.

I ALMOST regret buying the .243 for $100 right now, except it is an ejoector.

Well I am a bit tight for money right now my self but I don't think I have the will power to walk away from a $149.00 new in the box Handi. I will probably be in a Dicks store tomorrow, even though it is 67 miles away. :-\ No! I will not. I can resist, I CAN resist. ::)
My remember'er is broke, but my forgetter is getting better.

Apparently this store sold a lot when they went on sale.  The clerks are not real gun guys as a rule.  I would call before traveling very far to see if any are still there.

This clerk was from NY; stated that he couldn't understand why anyone wanted anything larger than .243.  Said a lot of people come in wanting 30-06, and .338.  Maybe he never met an elk that didn't cooperate.  The other clerk steered me to a Marlin for a 35 Rem., didn't seem to understand the lure of singleshots; and neither of them seemed to know what a Whelen is.

I'll bet you a doughnut that he read an article praising the virtue of the 243 and was spouting it back to sound like he knew something.

This is NOT a Hijack BUT I have a question re: the scopes that H&R supplied:
Anybody know just how good these 4 X 12 scopes are?  I got one on a .223 I picked up at Dicks and I have another coming on a .308.  The scope on the .223 has (so far) appeared to be ok........I'm not very well versed on optics in general but I wonder what others have to say about them?

The scopes that H&R supplied are probably made by one of the other mid-level name brand companies like Tasco, Bushnell, or Simmons.  H&R contracts with them for a run of "X" number of scopes, usually for a less popular magnification (example 4-12x, for the .308 instead of a 3-9x) range, but they leave their brand name off.  This works out for both companies, the scope company makes extra money from the production of the scopes, H&R gets decent quality scopes for a lower price than if they had to pay for "named brand" scopes.

You get pretty good use out of these scopes, but you have to remember they're not Nikon, Redfield, Leupold, quality scopes.

I guess I'm a hog, but I would have bought them all.  I have two sons, two grandsons, Patty and myself.  If anything was left, I'd keep it for parts or part it out.

Anyone know if any stores in Michigan have that deal ? I went to Muskegon, MI. The clerk didn't have a clue, of course. ::)

I've never seen any of the deals on Handi's at my Dick's Sproting Goods here that I keep hearing about on here.  Guess it's time to move.

As a general rule of thumb I will never walk away from an NIB Handi for $149 regardless of the caliber. Even a $200 NIB Handi will come home with me always.

I would have a problem walking out without one of those for $149.  I have been considering going to all handis and getting rid of my bolt actions.  I know of a couple people looking for what I have around here.  I will have to check my local Dicks here just in case they have anything.

GO  BUY  IT NOW!!! ;D  If it's on display I think some who have talked about this deal asked for a discount and I think the manager OK'd it :-\  Worth a try. Good luck It's the best deal you'll see in a while. If you plan on keeping it I'd make sure it locks up tight.
Good Luck and Go Get It before it's gone ;)

They've been all gone here for a while. I bought two for $250 & $225 and thought that was a deal. I tried to buy another but ran across an uncooperative salesman and left before going to JAIL >:(

Don't feel bad, I asked kennyd where in NY,

Apparently this store sold a lot when they went on sale.  ...  I would call before traveling very far to see if any are still there. This clerk was from NY;...

the store that had the Handis in stock was.  He didn't want to reply.  Guess I can't blame him, but I haven't been able to find any at that price either.  As a matter of fact, I haven't found any Handi's on display at the Dick's near where I live.  They do have Pardner shotguns though.

And to think, the Dick's stores here don't even have Handis in stock. You have to special order them.
