I picked one up in a pawn shop today.  It seems nice.

Thats nice I have a similar one myself. What kind of shooting do you have planned for it?

Probably just some informal paper shooting, and perhaps some hunting.  I have 3 other .45-70s that are lighter.  I'm wondering how it would do for local BPCR matches.

i shoot my 74 pedersoli sharps in the black powder matches and informal smokless powder  matches, but only shoot lead cast bullets, they are fantistic rifles. it sure was a leaning curve getting the most out of the 74 sharps repo. i don,t win often, but i scare the hell out of the winners. eastbank.

Swampman,
One very nice rifle there. (I have it's twin in my safe) ;)
+1 on it being lighter than MY 3 other 45-70s too. But it is ALOT of fun to shoot. ;D
I always enjoy the pictures you "compose"of your firearms.  Very nice. Lots of character, so much better than the ones I try to do.

Swampi, I might just have to drive down there to Fla. and have a closer look at that beaut.  I've had a couple in my hands more than once, but could never drop the dimes.  It was a lot of dimes.

Beautiful gun.

It ended up being a lot cheaper than the Shiloh.  Maybe one day I can order one but until then I believe this will work fine.
