federal flight control ammo
« on: March 11, 2012, 12:37:19 PM »
Am I the only one contacting federal  asking for field loads  with flight control wads  It patterns great out of cyl. bore guns . But I would like some that didn't kick the bejesus out of you. 1-1/8th oz loaded to 1150-1250 fps in flight control wads would take short cyl.bore guns to another level of usefulness

I've always thought there was a way to create a choke affect with the wad (cups).  Never did see the use of higher velocity shells anyway.  You're gonna run out of range when you run outta pattern, not when you run outta speed when shooting shot.

Would be great to have birdshot loads that would pattern that tight from an open bore.  I have considered sending one of my 18" 870 barrels off for a screw-in choke, but flite control loads would make this a moot point.

What do they have in Flight Control?  All I've ever heard of is Buckshot.  Do they make a #6 or is that what we are trying to get them to do?

Know I know how Flight Control works.  Sounds like they add weight to the rear of the shot-cup to add density so it retains speed better and stays with the shot load longer.  Sounds like all they need to do is take some weight off the shot load to compensate and quite trying to reach unneeded velocity levels for us poor folks with lightweight shotguns.

Actually I didn't see that many Flight Control loads and all were heavy weight loads and (or) extreme levels of velocity.  I would love to see some (3 - 1 - 6) in there and the one I would make for my 5 Lb 7 oz 12 Gauge which would be (2 1/2 - 7/8 - 6) which would be a true 20 Ga kicking load.
