the whole story is to long for me to type in detail, but here it goes. it was a warm sunny 65 degrees here yesterday so i decided to take the kayak out for a little paddle on the beaver swamp. the water was down do to the guy trapping beaver and pulling the dam down to help "persuade" the beaver's near his traps (not me). paddled around and bit and came to a spot where the water was low enough that the bushes were sticking up out of the water, i had to pull my way through by the branches. once i was through i just floated around a bit checking out the shore line, when i noticed a bit of movement. at first glance i thought it was a young deer peeking out of the brush but when it turned sideway's i realized it was a coyote. it circled around a couple times and bedded down. i believe it heard me coming through the bushes and was checking things out. so i slowly paddled towards it, trying to find him again. after fifteen minutes of looking i thought he might of left, until i seen his ear flicker. then slowly i could make out his entire head. about every minute he would shove his nose up in the air and check it for scent, however i was downwind of him. the breeze slowly drifted me until i could get a decent view of his body. from approximatly 35-40 yards i took a shot and hit him. he jumped up and went into a spin, i fired two more shots through some brush trying to put him down and he took off straight into the swamp. he made it about 50-60 yards before he went down. i made a mental note of the scrub trees around him and made my way over. i finally found his ear floating up above some vegetation and pulled him aboard. as a side note he was out on a thin peninsula that goes out into the swamp, i believe this was a planned excape route for him. after this i walked the land and it was littered with bones, coon, rabbit and deer were the ones i could identify. if the itch comment was refferring to him looking mangy, he was mange free. just looks yucky from sitting on the bottom of the swamp
