Herter's swaged 1/2jackets
« on: March 12, 2012, 01:04:21 PM »
Hi guys, Couple of years ago at a gun show I bought (cheap) 2 boxes of 180 gr. .308 dia. Herter's 1/2 jackets. I haven't loaded any cause I have no Idea what a speed limit would be for them, any idea? When I was a kid I bought a Herter's 1/2 jacket swage die in 308 and fooled around w/ it a little bit I had no Idea what I was doing and the most you could say is that they were 308 dia. I still have it and most of a box of jackets guess I should get it out after 40 or so years! -Muddy

you mite look up some info for the hornady 100 grn half jackets in 308 dia.ive loaded a lot of them but not lately.if i remember right they will travel over 3000fps with no problems. ive l oaded a lot of them in 30-30 that were prob goin around 2500fps. so id guess your 180 grn bullets could prob travel as fast as a fully jaketed bullet of the same weight with no problems. useing data for a 180 grn bullet of course.
the 100 grn bullets i loaded always seemed easily as accurate as any other bullets ive used also.
