Metal Trigger Guard (and Spacer)
« on: March 12, 2012, 10:23:40 PM »
Don't know how long it's been since someone brought this up...I did see the thread in the FAQs was last replied to in 2010.

I'm interested in the metal TG, could care less about the spacer. Is this idea still on the drawing board anywhere or are they actually available? Thanks.

Well I was afraid of that. Any idea as to when or if this item may be forthcoming from somewhere?

So who's doing the talking and how do we motivate them?

I've sent factory parts to a bunch of members, but only one has come thru with an actual product and they're no longer making them, no one for the last year or so now has shown any interest other than speculation saying they know someone who "might" be able to make them, try the search to find those discussions.

So do I presume that the member who actually mf'd a product has probably sold out on all those items? Could you mention the name or contact info of the party...or is it a moot point?

I don't think he had enough folks willing to actually shell out the $$$. It is not an simple design, and that means more time and steps to make, and time is $$. Its tough to sell a $50-$75 trigger guard on a $200 gun.

Yep, I understand that. I look at my $200 gun as an opportunity to make it unique to me. Guess that's where I differ from many folks.

It's a hobby so it's not required to make financial sense....at least that's the way I see it. Thanks for your input.

The problem is, he has to make 50 of them to make setup cost worth his time.

I found 3 Bronze spacers on Gunbroker in December, bought all 3 @ $29.00 for the first and $25.00 for the other two and wish he had 300 more.  Seller had machined them.  They fit perfectly;  They REALLY dressed up my TC, BC and Shrikari.  I have one steel trigger guard left from a purchase years ago from Gardner.  I keep hoping someone will go into the business of making brass or bronze ones.

Yes, if I could find metal trigger guards (of any kind) I'd buy as many as were available. at any semi-resonable price. But I certainly understand the business end of the deal...a company can't be expected to build & sell at a loss.

Good on ya for finding those that you did.

Thinking it was Toth Tool.  He got a gov. contract or something that was  a good job, so he had to drop it.  8(  I was really sad I couldn't get in on that first buy.  8(

He still has steel spacers on the site: http://www.tothtool.com/product_info.php?products_id=49&osCsid=b71eaf098c62e0e61fe92e6c3db3e900

FWIW, I was one of those that mentioned that I knew someone, who had the connections to make metal spacers and trigger guards.  I ran into three problems, one, which my contact mentioned was that the item would have to be made overseas (meaning China) in order for it to be a viable product (produced at a reasonable cost so it could be sold at a reasonable cost).  He also mentioned that most American sportsmen have an ingrained bias about the quality of items made in China, so he was wondering if it would sell.
The other problem was that I mentioned that I wanted the parts made out of brass, to which he replied that the material would add quite a bit to the markup.
Finally, he wanted me to commit to a specific number of each part.  I have no idea how many would sell, and I didn't want to get burned financially.  I'm trying to get him to give me a minimum number for an order that he would accept.
At this time, progress has been stalled.  I honestly don't know if it will ever come to fruition.  I would settle for plain metal (blued aluminum or steel) spacers and trigger guards.  The question is, would they sell?

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

Well I would certainly buy more than one TG....how many would depend on price. I'm one that dislikes China-made stuff but would probably get over it to have a decent metal TG. My preferences would be either steel or brass, lastly aluminum - but I'd accept that as well.

As it's been mentioned, making it isn't the problem because they have been made in the past.

It's money that does the talking and unless someone comes up with the cash up front, and has them made, nobody is going to go out on that limb and make them only to be left holding a bag full and nobody to sell them to.

Been a while back, but someone had figured a ball park figure of around $75 and although that wouldn't sound that high to some who really want one, there just wasn't enough interest shown to make it a no brainer and have them made.
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Yes, as I stated there are certainly business considerations and those are understood. I was simply wishing there were more of us that would like to have this product to buy.
