Scientists want to ressurect, or clone the wooly mammoth.

YOUR FRIENDS' ACTIVITY  Today in Tech     Scientists to bring extinct woolly mammoth back to life with the help of elephantsBy Tecca | Today in Tech – 5 hrs ago

  • The enormous mammal may walk the Earth again
A group of South Korean and Russian scientists are planning to bring the woolly mammoth back to life, 10,000 years after the species went extinct. Using tissue samples from the specimens recovered in Siberia after global warming thawed the region's permafrost, the scientists will clone the huge, hairy prehistoric mammals.
In order to resurrect the massive species, the scientists will take an egg cell from an elephant, and remove the cell's nucleus, which is the part that contains most of the cell's genetic material. This will be replaced by a nucleus taken from the mammoth's somatic cell, effectively creating an egg cell that could one day develop into a baby mammoth. But before the researchers can actually do any of this, they first have to find tissues with undamaged genes, and restore the cells after thousands of years of being frozen.
Aside from this particular team of scientists, a researcher from Kyoto University also revealed his plan to resurrect the species. Woolly mammoths roamed the Earth as far back as 150,000 years ago, and went extinct due to climate change and hunting by early humans.
Mr. Charles Glenn “Charlie” Nelson, age 73, of Payneville, KY passed away Thursday, October 14, 2021 at his residence. RIP Charlie, we'll will all miss you. GB

Sounds interesting to bring back some of God's creation to view and enjoy...so long as they don't try to "play God" and start mixing cloned material.

I would love to see this tried! There were smaller (I know-sounds like an oxymoron) mammoth, or mastodon still alive in Greenland as late as 8,000 BC. If they can, maybe they could bring back the passenger pigeon, it went extinct about 1930, or the Dodo's, they were huge birds, probably 3-4 times the size of a big turkey, and were supposed to be delicious, which explains why they went extinct :D

It does suggest caution though.  How might now extinct species affect our present natural balance ?   It wasn't too many years ago when some enterprising individual had the big idea of importing Kudzu for cattle grazing.  Then the Zebra Mussels were introduced into the Great Lakes.  Then there are those pythons in the everglades..
Earlier, it was the English sparrow and the dandelion...
These are all current, living species...just moved around.  Don't know how re-introducing extinct species of predators and perhaps their diseases..may not work out well.

  One thing we should realize:
If there is something which can be done by a mad scientist.. there will exist somewhere, a scientist just mad enough to try it !

Sound like I may need to shop for a 45-70 guide gun and stock up on Corbon 500 grainers. Better yet may have to get one of those .50 bmg rifles.

Why would we want resurrect an animal that's already extinct?  It's hard enough for the animals in the world today to try to stay alive in our human run world.  Why would we want to see it go extinct again?

Maybe they should work on resurrecting the rhino that just went extinct a few months ago.

My first reaction?.... .375 H&H Magnum with 300 grain tungsten solids.

Second reaction is: I wonder how much the ivory weighs on each side of a big one.

Third reaction is: Are they pretty good eating?

Fourth reaction is that if I have to go to the arctic to hunt them, I'll do something else.

Well, ya gotta give credit where credit is due; the Dumycrats are trying their best to increase the use of birth control and abortions.  So you can't say no one is doing anything about the proliferation of humans.

Sorry if that sounded so harsh....didn't mean it to be that way.
It just makes me laugh when someone is going to spend a ton of time and money on something non-productive and that saves nothing when they can be spending it on saving rain forests species, saving elephants and gorillas from poachers in Africa or saving our national parks here in the US.

yeah, but I'd rather see them spend some money on sending troops or anti poachers to Africa and get rid of every idiot that kills the last of the worlds large animals there.  Maybe we can make ash trays and benches out of their hands and hides.    ;D

A new reality hunting show could be created. Participants have to take down a wooly mammoth with stone tipped spears only just like when they roamed the earth.

Hope one never gets to the US.  US Fish and Wildlife would make it endangered and free ranging when no fences would hold it.  Just think what your car would look like when it got stepped on, or your house when it got ran through.

US Fish and Wildlife are giving us fits when we try and reintroduce a species that was killed off 100 years ago by man.  The species survived in Canada, and the Canadians have given us a small herd for restarting the herd here in Alaska.  Now the US Fish and Wildlife service has decided that once we turn them loose they are taking the herd over and making the rules.  Where ever we turn them loose the area will be placed off limits for any other use.  The fact the land is Federal or State owned does not matter.  Hunting will never be allowed, no matter what the numbers.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

They are going to use a female african elephant to carry the clone. Only living relative big enough.  IF it works, what are they going to eat.  They will displace the musk ox and caribou for grazing land.  They once had a huge bear, larger than anything today that MIGHT have preyed on them.  Don't know about the saber tooth tiger.  Lots of animals back then were huge.  Many died out, not from man, but when the ice age ended and their habitat shrunk.
