New Ebay rules?
« on: March 13, 2012, 05:23:49 PM »
After having several thunder mugs taken off Ebay, I called customer service, to have it explained that "Signal Cannons" "Thunder Mugs" and such devices are no longer welcome on Ebay as t hey cannot inspect each item and ensure they meet BATF standards. So in the future, you may see them up for a day or three, but as soon as Ebay finds out, poof, they'll be gone, unless it is a "Non Firing" model.
I have a feeling it is due to t he idiot in Cali that shot through the trailer.

Nah, it is really due to the socialist idiots making decisions at eBay.

Out fox 'em.  Put the ad up on eBay as non-firing but direct the customer to your website with a selection of firing models.  Be sure to show the non-firing one on the front page so the eBay fools are satisfied.  If you want auctions, put links on your web site to gunbroker auction pages.

Besides, if someone wants a non-firing one, take their money; that way you can get paid for ones that you would otherwise scrap.

Ebay comes up with new rules constantly.  One they came out with a few months ago was to prohibit off-ebay links in the auction postings.

Yes they have recently changed their rules.  I got this today:

-------------

Dear mikeh3235xxxxxxx (mikeh3235xxxxxxxxxxxx.com),

You recently listed the following auction-style listing:

320865476960 - 1/3 scale 1841 6-pdr cannon barrel on garrison-style carriage collectable

Unfortunately, we had to remove your listing because of the following:

You listed a scale model civil war signal cannon which is not permitted on the site. The only signal cannons we allow are those that are NOT in any way capable of firing a projectile. eBay as a company made the decision to prohibit firearms because we did not want to potentially become a platform for their unlawful acquisition. I noticed you have had this item removed previously, so I ask that you refrain from listing it again. Please understand that when members relist the same or a similar item to that we have removed, it can cause restrictions and suspensions to be placed on their account. We do value your contributions to our community as a seller, and appreciate your understanding and cooperation and we wish you the best with your future transactions.

Please note this was not an attempt to single your listings out and we welcome reports of any other items you may encounter on our site that you believe fall under the same policy. Please refer them to us using the "Report Item" link on the listing page.

------------------

I don't believe it was because of the recent cannon through trailer incident, because they started it before then.  I believe it is because of all the ruckus we made about the pipe bombs being listed on ebay.  Not knowing the difference, they are simply clamping down on all now.

The first time mine got pulled a few weeks ago, I called them and they said it was because I used the term "black powder".  (They keep an incident report when a listing gets pulled, where the reviewer indicates why they pulled it.)  I relisted once more for 4 days saying it was non-firing and they did not pull it, but maybe just missed it.  It did not sell.  So I put it back on saying it was a "signal cannon only" (no mention of powder) and they yanked it again, with the above statement sent.

What ticks me off was there were at least 5 other listings on there using the term "signal cannon" when I listed mine.  They all got to their ending (some sold) without getting yanked.  At least one of those unsold is now relisted.

If they are going to do this BS, they need to do it across the board.  Any darn tube closed on one end with a hole for a fuse can fire a projectile, and maybe even blow up at the same time.  Heck, they let you list muzzleloader barrels on there.  This is ridiculous!

They don't sell well at all on Gunbroker.  Not nearly as many people look there.

I can understand there wouldn't be as many casual observers on Gunbroker as eBay but you would think that people looking for things eBay refuses to auction would look elsewhere for them.

Well here's my 2 cents on this thread. EBay has its problems and I was one of those people that purchased one of those brass pipe bombs, a $40.00 loss. If it hadn't been for GBO and this black powder cannon site, I probably would of loaded it and grenaded myself. I attempted to purchase used B/P cannons on EBay and through a 7 day bid period I would see a cannon jump to 600 to 700 bucks and I believe, and this only me, that friends were bidding for friends to get the price high, JUST MY THOUGHT. Gun Broker, Guns America and NRA guns for sale site have really dropped the B/P cannons that are good enough for me to by. I think the cannons being sold on this site are of better quality at a better price. I'm the proud owner of 3 of JS Brooks brass cannons and I think I got a great deal on all of them. (Thanks Mike) I'm now talking to another make on this site for a gift for a great friend who was Artillery in the ARMY and will soon retire. OK I had my say, I want tothank all for the input that goes into B/P cannons on this Thread. OK 1 last thing "Is there any So. Calif. Cannon people who go out and shot, other than the Guy in San Diego who was charged with 2nd degree murder? ??? ??
