m77 feed problems
« on: March 14, 2012, 03:27:53 PM »
I bought a second hand M77 in 7x57 (mid 80's by serial number).
I took it out to the range and it wont feed right, the round pops up out of the mag, but doesn't get picked up in the bolt face, it just sits in front of the bolt, and when you try to chamber the round the bolt doesn't go in far enough because the round isnt in the bolt face.

Anybody ever had this problem an know any fixes?

New magazine or Ruger needs to re-adjust/tweak the feed lips.

Thank you, I think I'll call Ruger and see how to go about sending it to them.

Those older 77's were push feeders---sure its not just your expectations that are not inline with the rifle instead of something seriously wrong?
Just asking.

Thanks for that reply Omaha, you are right, seems the old tang safety models are push feed. Maybe I was being a too gentle chambering a round.

The plunger ejector spring was locked up, and not depressing into the bolt face, keeping the action from closing all the way.
Its working now, hope to get to the range soon.
