Farm Pond Palooza
« on: March 17, 2012, 01:14:50 PM »
My brother and I hit a farm pond in the Bellefontaine area, this afternoon and the catching was non-stop. We were catching bluegills and largemouth bass for 2 1/2 hours straight. We each caught 30+ fish and the only reason we stopped was that my brother had to be at work, by 5.

We kept 19 of the bluegills...all of which were over 8". There were a couple of times, while trolling that I had a fish in the boat and one on the other line. As soon as I would unhook the first fish, throw the lure back in the water and start reeling the second fish in...a fish would hit on the lure that was dangling in the water on the first line. It was NUTS and like that for the entire time we were there.

This is a private pond and has always produced some excellent fishing.

The catch!

Now that makes me homesick!!
When I lived in Louisiana, had a bunch of private ponds that I could fish and like you sometimes it was nonstop catching both bass and bream and the occassional crappie!!

Congrats on the great day of fishing. Those kind of days will stick in your mind forever. They'll also spoil you. There is a pond in southwest Alabama where my Mom used to live. Everyone said there were no fish in it. I kinda agreed until I figured out what they liked. It quickly turned into one of my favorite places to bass fish. It's a three hour ride from where I live now but my wife and I will fix a picnic lunch and some soft drinks and make the trip two or three times a year. We throw back the big ones over 2 1/2 pounds but keep a mess of fillet size. Here's my wife after a normal day there.

kynardsj,
Wow, that's a lot of bass in one day!  What is the daily bass limit in Alabama?

10 per person per day. That particular day I think we caught 35 or so with some in the 4-8 pound range. We just kept the ones you see in the pic. I don't care to keep the larger ones as I figure they have good genes and can pass them on to their offspring. That and I like cleaning and eating the smaller ones in the 1-2 pound range.
