Just bought an old one...what do you think?
« on: January 26, 2004, 04:33:13 AM »
Just got my first atv. It's an 87 Suzuki LT-4WD 250. I paid 1,000 for it. It included a plow. 7,086 miles. Everything works except the speedo/odo which the guy said froze and broke last week when he was plowing at ( -10 degrees). I only need it for plowing my driveway (20x70) and lane (20x300) and deer pulling (my deer are usually not too big). The machine starts right up and seems to run great. Plastic is solid, tires are good, lights all work. No major rust, and the racks are all good. Anyone with experience with this type, please chime in.

Anyone know a good place to get parts for these things?? The dealership is too $$$$$ for parts.

I know a little about those old Suzuki's and I think the problem you are going to run into is that when you go to get a part they don't know what country to get them from. That wasn't all that uncommon back then though to have parts from all over the place on one machine. I guess it works because Polaris still does it.

Congratulations on getting you a 4 wheeler. I am sure it will do everything you need it to do.

congrats, that old Suzuki is a fine machine.  Does it have the dual or triple range transmission?  That really helps when it comes time to work with the quad.  Not sure about your home town,  but here it is easy to find zuki parts.  There is a zuki dealer about 15 miles from my house.  Good luck with it, and have some fun also, not just work.   :-)

Dunno but that sounds kinda expensive for a '87 model 250. Perhaps two years ago now I bought a used '98 Honda Recon 250 and paid $850 for it. Sure has been a solid investment. I don't trail ride and only use it here on my blueberry farm to pull a trailer but I've sure used it a lot for that and hauling cedar logs out of the woods behind my house for use as a fence.

Out in TX at the BHO II I rode a suzi that belonged to another fellow and it worked nicely. Sure nothing wrong with them that I noticed in a week end of riding in some seriously ugly mud as MarkC can verify.

I don't know a whole lot of the older Suzuki's but I have seen some of the newer ones in action. I rode with a couple guys that had some 500's and they did not fair as well as they thought they would. Hopefully the new big bores will be a little more impressive.

Pete, the old _art at our deer camp has the identical machine you have.  He never maintains it and that ugly stupid old thing ( the machine I'm talking about) still runs.  I just can't figger out why.  And its a great riding little critter as well.
