Over the years I have turned into a gear and gadget head. When I look back over those years, it seems I was happier with the little bit of stuff I started out with. No vest. Just an articreel with an outside zippered pocket. In that I carried one Perrine aluminum flybox with streamers and nymphs, and another small one with drys. Sometimes a snuff can with some loose flies of dubious origin. One or two extra tapered leaders and a small spool of tippet, (only one, only one size). Forceps cliped to the strap, a zinger pinned to it too, with a nipper attached and a net french clipped to the creel. Whatever else I decided to take, (like a knife), would fit in the pocket on the creel, or it didn't go. Back then I could drink out of the waters I fished. I don't go equipped for a safari anymore but I still wear a vest with some empty, or near empty pockets. Not too many trips I take call for a full vest. But they are handy,....And I do carry more 'stuff ' these days. But sometimes, I still go out with just the creel or whatever I can carry in the pocket on my waders. Don't sweat the small stuff, have fun and enjoy the water.
