It's not quite what it appears, the basic concept dates back to 1939 and has been ammended and upgraded by nearly every president since then. Reality is that the president has the power to do pretty much anything he wants and long has had that power. Consider that WWII was our last declared war, all since have been under executive order. Nearly everything Abe Lincoln did was unconstutional and done without approval of congress but it got done all the same. I'm not saying this is good, I was shocked to see it myself,  but I've learned it is not really anything new.

If you read it all the way through, it gives Obama and his "committe" basically his cabinet authority to:

1) control food supply and distribution (hoarding by preppers?)
2) control transportation (everything is moved by train or truck)
3) control over utilities, which includes water supplies, gas electric, telephones, internet (maybe time to get "ham" radio)
4) control over industry that supplies anything the government wants or needs, military, vehicles, uniforms, shoes, (government needs come first, then rationing for people).
5) control over energy supplies, coal, oil, gas, gasoline, (again government first, then rationing)

All it would take is a national emergency for martial law, which can include delay of elections, thus a dictator.  (war with Iran, nuke attack from a rogue nation such as an EMP or a dirty bomb, another 9-11, Yellowstone erupting, New Madrid major earthquake, giant solar flare causing an EMP.)  What could happen this coming October, some type October surprise?

Executive orders should have been done away with after WWII.

What is means is they fear a coming total system collapse and would deal with it  via a Totalitarian State Control.

Their only problem is "how to pay for it" when the money is worthless and revenues have ceased. I guess that they could tap the gold reserves which they previously confiscated from the people, if there is any left.

Last time Ft. Knox was audited, there were only about $300 billion in today's dollars.  Not enough really.  It would probably be better to have a total colapse to wake people up, than a slow bleeding take-over that is going on now.  A total colapse would allow true conservatives to say I told you so, and begin to rebuild the country the way the founding fathers set up.  Don't know what will happen to welfare, social security and military if they can't get paid.  State governments are strained now.  Some states have started a gold standard backup system, like Utah.  Several are trying.  If that happens, maybe they can shut down schools to pay for national guard for security in the big cities.  In Alabama I think 80% of the state budget goes to education.

There is nothing in the Constitution that dictates the wording of a declaration of war.  The Congress approved of and gave full authority to President Bush to conduct the action against Iraq.  I believe the same is true of the Vietnam debacle and maybe even the Korean war, except it was to the respective Presidents at the time.  This is not to say that I agree with the way those wars were handled, but Congress always has the ability to cut off funding at any point if they disagree.

If you read it carefully, it encompasses every aspect of agriculture, production, distribution, energy resources, health resources, and banking, in PEACE TIME or War.

Part II section 201, paragraph (6), line (b).  ...shall plan for and issue regulations to prioritize and allocate resources and establish standards and procedures by which the authority shall be used to promote the national defence, under both emergency and non-emergency conditions

Part II section 201, paragraph (6), line (e) ....Upon such approval, the Secretary of the resource department that made the finding may use the authority of section 101(a) of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071(a), to control the general distribution of any material (including applicable services) in the civilian market.

Part III sec 301, loan guarantees......to guarantee loans by private institutions.

Part V, sec 502 (c) to employ persons of outstanding experience and ability without compensation and to employ experts, consultants, or organizations.

Look at Sec. 801 for the definitions, covers just about everything.

All he is waiting for is for a good reason to implement this executive order.  Why now?  Will we have suspended elections this fall under some contrived emergency?

In the 1980's when I took two courses in economics in college, we were operating under what the author of the book I was using, called Welfare Capitalism.  Today, with all the rules, regulations, mergers, etc, we are already somewhat socialist.  Remember Obama's mother, and her family had ties to the Communist Party.  Also Obama's father was a communist or communist sympathiser.  Obama associated with William Ayres.  He doesn't know anything about running a business or how they operate.  97% of his cabinet and appointees are liberal acedemia types or trial lawyers.  Clintons had about 50% come from business and industry.  So did the Bushes and Reagan.  From what I have seen, He said he wanted to "Fundamentally Change America".  Well, we did fine for over 200 years.  The last 20 years we had "Free Trade" agreements which gutted our industrial capacity, liberalised every aspect of government with "political correctness".  We have had "croney capitalism" rewarding big business and industry for supporting your party.  This is all comming to a head.  If Obama is re-elected, our economy will tank, eventually with hyper inflation or be stagnant for the next 10-20 years like Japan has been.  Some of the stuff is scary.  We once had upward mobility in the economy.

The younger generation just doesn't have a clue what is happening.  We had two job openings for a construction workers on pipelines.  Just a bottom end worker.  For the last one hired, over 200 people put in for it.  We did background check, credit checks, driving records, and had them all get a drug test.  We ended up with 5 people to interview.  Both hired were college grads, to dig ditches.  They have to drive a company vehicle, so they have to have a perfect driving record.  Since we operate under DOT rules, they have to have a drug test.  The background check is to see if there were/are any felonies or domestic problems on their record (no workplace violence).  Credit checks are so they don't have leins or have a problem with someone taking something extra out of their paychecks.  Finally, over half the 200 couldn't pass a drug test.  This is bad.

Well, I don't trust Snopes, it is liberal biased.  Also, what I quoted and UNDERLINED is word for word.  Read it yourself, and see what is says to you.  It is also posted at the begining word for word.  Most don't take time to really read it.  When Clinton did it in 1994, there was a fear he would declare some emergency back in 2000 and use this order to take over the government as a dictator.  So, the fear is real.  Obama's parents were associated with communists, he learned from Bill Ayers, and the recent video of him siding with the extreme liberal professor at Harvard.  He is the "Manchurian candidate" in my opinion.  Did anyone see that movie?

Doug Mataconis at Outside the Beltway observed of the new EO that:

Not only is the reaction to this [Executive Order] wildly over the top in some corners, but the Executive Order itself is nothing more than a restatement of policy that has been in place in decades and grants no authority to the President or the Cabinet that they don't already have under existing law.

The Defense Production Act has been in effect since the Truman Administration, and authorizes the President to direct private business to allocate resources to national defense as needed in a time of national emergency. Since the end of the Cold War, if not before, the Act has been used primarily to use DOD contracting practices to direct investment in new technologies that would be used for defense purposes, however it still requires the Executive Branch to at least plan for the possibility of allocating resources for national defense in the event of a national emergency in much the same way that rationing was implemented during World War II. Now, fortunately, we have not faced a national emergency of that type in the 50-odd years that the DPA has been in effect but that doesn't mean that such an eventuality, brought about by either international crisis or natural disaster, should not be planned for. Despite that it was released as part of the "Friday Document Dumps" that have become all too common in official Washington, that appears to be all that this Executive Order is about.

Note:  I am NOT an Obama supporter by any means but misstating or misrepresenting the facts does nothing to further the conservative cause.

Yes, that is what is scary.  IF say there is no budget passed or no continuing resolution.  Obama could force things to happen.  Lots of Ifs that are scary.  IF say there is another crash on Wall Street.  Obama could force things to happen.  This grants him too much power over the previous executive orders allowing the president to retaliate if we are attacked.  Usually the government PAYS for what they need, even in an emergency.  This says that they can confiscate without payment, but work and things.  Why now before the fall elections, why on Friday before the weekend when no one hardly watches the news.
