The news sure is laying on a lot of sob stories about the misfortune of the Syrians. How long do you think it will be before a "humanitarian aid mission" that includes a military presence?

If we go in now, we'll bump heads with the russkies.

Haven't we got enough to do without mucking around in another crap hole?  I personally couldn't care less what is going on with Syria, or the Syrians.  The same goes for that entire reagion.

Magooch: That probably sums up what most people in this country are thinking. If we're not bailing out greece, we're bombing afghanistan. It never ends. We've still got troops in bosnia after all these years.

Yeah, It seems to me that Ron Paul is the only one stressing that we should start taking care of us first.  He does take it a tiny step too far in my opinion, but it has to be a winning issue if presented properly.  I mean it could be a winning issue for Romney, Santorum, or Gingrich.  I think these guys might be a little leary of going down that road, because Ron Paul just hasn't caught fire.

The main thing that bugs me about Syria and any other place that looks like an opportunity for US military intervention is that the Republicans are fixated on perpetuating this culture of going to war for no good reason. Obama is the war monger in chief today, but it used to be Bush, and it appears that if a republican wins the next election, it will be more of the same.

I think most politicians are aware that we are tired of war.  I think bombing would/is as far as I would go.  I just think we need to stay out of their civil conflicts.  If we support one side and they loose, we have no ally in that situation.  If we support one side and they win.  The oppisition will resort to terroist activities against us.  So we just need to stay out.  If we need oil, we produce our own, and/or go to the cheapest alternative like natural gas.

When Syrians get sick of the problem it should be Syrians who correct the problem. Why should we get involved? Does anyone seriously believe that anyone over there would do the same for us if the tables were turned?

Now it the plan was to make it cost so much that we could not matain our commitment because it destoried out economy ....... sorta like Regan did the Russians in the cold war ............Isn't it funny how these crisis pop up so well timmed ?

The next one in line is Mauritania, I think. Same story as Syria, basically.
 
Looking back to Rwanda, which even Clinton didn't do anything about, these recent events are trivial. Rwanda resulted in over a million deaths, even by the most conservative estimates.

What do you think Russia is up to?  I think some of Sadams gas or maybe even nuke bomb making material made it's way to Syria.

My memory of things is that both of the Clintons and several other  Dumycrats (like Rockefeller) were right up front in pushing for removal of Saddam Hussein--until GWB became President.  I even remember Bill Clinton grumbling about not being able to execute a "good war", but had to settle for bombing the Chinese Embasy in Serbia and meddle a bit in Bosnia
