Encore 20ga prohunter, slug advice
« on: March 21, 2012, 11:51:32 PM »
Purchased a used slug barrel, an Encore 20ga prohunter 3" rifled slug barrel used and will be testing ammo soon.

Anyone have one? If so what does yours like best. In my searches it looks like 3" shells tend to do better than 2 3/4", has that been your experience? And last, what kind of accuracy are you getting?

Try the 2 3/4" Hornady SST first. It just may be all you are needing/wanting to buy. Pretty easy to put all 5 rounds back into the box at 100 yards. Wife shot her buck and doe with it last season and only needed 2 shots. My 11 year old niece used the same barrel to kill her first anything ever last fall and she did it with 1 shot a touch over 100 yards to get a buck during youth season.

If the 3" 20ga slugs are like shooting the 2 3/4" SST in the 12ga Encore.... It will rock your world even with the Flextech stock with Energy Burners. Every accurate again but sure was glad that I wear ear muffs when hunting. Not for the noise which I am sure would be loud (like a cannon) but so I did not have to pick my hat off the ground after each shot! ;D  Justin
