President Obama's Nauruz message to the Iranian people
« on: March 22, 2012, 08:25:35 AM »
President Obama addresses the Persians:

Any Farsi speakers here? What did he say at the end? Anyhow... an Iranian Cutie responds:

Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

Doesn't it just seem natural that the leader of the free world and melting pot of cultures called the United States, if he truly was committed to uniting the people of the land and administering a "transparent" government, would feel a deeply moral responsibility to tell ALL the people he represents what that last statement in farsi meant??  Instead of giving an English interpretation, as a responsible leader would have done, he spoke the language of those who proclaim the U.S. to be the enemy as if he were whispering about us behind our backs.  The guy has unmitigated chutzpah.

Perhaps he was speaking to the Persians, not the people he represents/leads, and that is why he finished in Farsi...

So I guess the people he "represents" dont have a right to know what he was saying.

That's an odd guess to make... I don't suppose we have a right to understand languages we haven't taken the time to learn. We're all free to learn.

It's a fine thing to have the president send this greeting to the Iranian people... much better than bluster and threat.

It might be that Americans expect their president to speak the same language that Americans speak.

(shrug) a try for a connection with the people the speech was aimed at... kind of like ˇfeliz Navidad!when telling one of your Spanish-speaking friends 'Merry Christmas!'

Trying to make a connection with the people the speach was aimed at??

I'm sure they could have set the teleprompter so he could have just read the words in their language as long as it didn't include the word "CORPSMAN" he might have pulled it off.
