Brazing front sight
« on: March 22, 2012, 11:21:48 AM »

Not a Handi but close . I have an Ithaca 66 slug gun thaat the front sight just fell off. Anyone know how it was origanally attached? And has any one brazed/sodered one back one on. How bout JB Weld or PC 7 both good empoxys? This sight is 3 inches long 3/8 inch wide .1/4 tall .  So any help would be nice.

Can't say absolutely, but the sight was probably soldered on, then the metal blued.  If you have it silver soldered on, you will need to have the metal refinished due to the heat involved.  Brownells sells a silver bearing solder that melts at a much lower temp, strong as heck, that I have used without having to refinish.  As far as different epoxies, you're on your own.  I have used Brownells Acra Glass gel to temporarily attach a scope mount and it didn't fall off, in fact was quite difficult to remove, but I can't truly recommend it without more experience.  Goatwhiskers
