Wooo, I doubt it. That's a big case compared to the .223. I'd like to see the what the seasoned guys have to say.

A rechambered 1/9" .223 barrel to .220 swift AI with an appropriate throat to shoot heavy VLD's would be awesome!  8)

I would have a gunsmith/machinist with a lathe do this for you...

Dave is correct, thats allot of difference... Maxi/Mag, 455/44M, 454/45Colt are allot different. These three are easily done by hand. With a 220 its larger in diameter over its full length... IMPOSSIBLE to get and keep straight by hand. I did a couple 17HH from 17HMR barrels, I used my drill press with a centering quill. (NO power, just to keep things straight) I still screwed up one chamber...  :-[ ::)

Its a nice caliber, (I would go 225 myself) but don't waste a good barrel, a GS shouldn't be more than 100 (and thats steep).

we have done several.... tha 22-250 with 1-14 twist did much better for what we wanted.
but tha 1-9 late model .223's were very accurate too............. ;D
all were not done by hand, so i can't tell ya tha effort required ;)

I wouldn't do it by hand, but check with Fred at 4D, he'll know whether it's a good idea or not.

I know it can be done , GregP42 has one , his was done on a 24" 1 in 12 twist and shot the lighter 35 to 45 grain bullets very well , I haven't talked to him in awhile to see how the throat is holding up on it though .

You will discover that there is a huge difference in the results between turning the reamer in the barrel and turning the barrel around the reamer (as in a lathe).  Believe me, you do not want to do this task by hand.  Larry

I recommend not doing it by hand.  There is nothing to pilot the reamer.  And you will have to remove a lot of metal.

I started my hornet to 225win by hand and didnt get anywhere.  All it did was egg out the chamber some.  Fortunately i didnt get far so th reamer cleaned it up.

Boy , you got that right Larry , Greg had Wayne do his on a lathe , and it took 2 trys as the reamer failed on the first barrel  , a flute broke if I remember correctly and he had to get a 2nd barrel from someone here on the boards .
