Savage 219 Barrels

I have 2 Sav. 219s one 30-30 and the other a 22 K Hornet.  Sure like both rifles.  Other than just looking for extra rifle barrels at gun shows does anyone know of any other sources?  Thanks.

I had one many years ago in the 22 Hornet. The rifle was a great shooter and like a young fool I sold it. But I have never seen any barrels at gun shows Loved the rifle.

I have had several of these over the last few years, currently a 30-30 which I have relined to 25 caliber and chambered to 25-35.  Although I see a few complete rifles at shows, I have never seen just the rifle barrels for sale.  I have a 20 gauge barrel with chokes and a 12 gauge trap barrel 36 inches long that fit the action and you can find these once in a while.  Shotgun barrels are also available from Gun Parts and most other parts as well.  I've been  looking for years for a 22 Hornet barrel without luck.  There has been a guy at some of the shows with a 25-20 rifle for $500.00.  I have never seen a 32-20 but they did make some.  With several switch barrel rifles selling well on the market today ( New England, Rossi, Mossberg) I think that Savage is missing a buck not bringing out  the 219 again.  Good Luck on your search.

My Dad recently unearthed a 219 with a .218Bee (rechambered 22Hornet) and 16 ga. and passed it on to me. I swapped the .218Bee for a 30-30 with the only other 219 owner that I knew existed. I've got some restoration to do on it; I think I'm going to try to clean it up for a gift for my son, when he's a mite older.

I'd sure like to know of any other resources out there for 219s.

I have a 219L ...purchased new in 1965. It is in .22 Hornet....the 30/30 was also available when I purchased it..
   Extra barrels are as hard to find as hen's teeth!
 With the new-found enthusiasm for single shots; Savage should re- introduce the 219L series!!

May be they should look at the way NEF are selling and take the hint.  I wish they would stick with their original design if they did.

I have a 219 in the 22 Hornet. Recently took a coyote at 138 yards. My Dad bought this rifle after he came back from WWII. I have a 32 mm obj. scope on it and want to go to at least a 40mm. I ordered a side mount for it in supposidly a "high style" to accommodate the larger diameter scope. Hope it is the right one. Anybody else have this scope problem???  I need a brighter scope so I can hopefully get a couple shots . They are bedding in an over grown Christmas tree farm and only move at dark.

I got an odd one. Weather it,s a savage or an H@R haven,t figured out yet. It is 22 jet. No listing for that cart but it is origenal. Got another barrel that ,s in the white marked 357 exp.

445 Supermag, those are two very interresting barrels.  I had a 22 Jet S&W once, it was ok but out of a 6.5" barrel it was VERY LOUD.  Let us know if you are able to detiremen what gun they might fit.

That barrel is probably an H&R .  I thought I remembered that chambering and I just checked in Gun Parts Catalog and they list the 22 Jet in the H&R.  Should be a little screamer out of the rifle barrel.

I got the rechambered 218 Bee barrel from TeamNelson and am now trying to work up some loads with cast bullets.  20 inchs of snow is hampering my efforts though.

That 22 jet is H&R. The 219 was discontinued Before the 22 Jet cartiade came out. Marv.

      I tried it on my H@R but it would not lock up. So i thought it might be for a savage. On my H&R the barrels are round at the recevers. This one has flats on both sides. I have a stevens single shot in 9mm rim fire also shell,s for it. Brass case with#9 shot. Made to shoot bird,s inside barns. I used it for chipmunks in the yard. I put up a sign telling tnem  they had 2 weeks to vacate the property and remove the stored food out of my cars. Seed in the headliner of my 38 dodge 4d sedan delux.  Don,t know why they called it delux it had no heater, no signal lights ( both options) but it had the optional tail light only one required. They ignored the sign so i had to use force. So the 9mmrf came in handy i could not be charged with exsesive force.

Beeg; since my 219L was of the last year of manufacture, it has a groove mount. The later models were called 219L (for lever) since they have a side lever to open the action.
   With the hornet, there is a lot of "meat" around the bore in the chamber area to mount a regular weaver type mount. I would look much farther for such mounts, rather than the old side mounts.
    445 super....try that Jet for a while, but be prepared for case head separation. With that long taper on the case, it will never seize in the chamber, but rather tends to back out, flexing the case ...causing incipient head separation.
   Three guns were chambered for the Jet...the Marlin 62,  a Rem bolt action handgun and the H&R single shot.
    The case separation situation caused Rem to go to the .221 fireball after only a couple years with the Jet.
   Surprisingly, the Jet doesn't use the common .224 bullet.
 You may have the rare individual that doesn't have case separation problems.. I hope you do!
     Sorry!....don't mean to "throw cold water" on anything, just wanted to report some common info...

You forgot the main gun which the 22 Jet was designed for the S&W 53.  I would still love to get ahold of one if I had the money even with all the problems they had reloading it and its binding up the cylinder,  they also made cylinder inserts so you could shoot 22 rimfire cartridges in the pisto, it had dual firing pins.

   do you recall that Ruger single shot in a revolver frame? What round did it use .256 Win....30 carbine?

Yes that was the Ruger Hawkeye if I remember right.  I know a man who has quite a collection of those, over 30.  I think the only caliber they were available in was the 256 Winchester.  They came out in 1962.  Too bad Ruger doesn't bring them back in different cartridges.

Drove up to a Gun Show in Sioux Fall SD today and saw one of the H&R's in 22 Jet with a bunch off ammo and an extra 20 ga barrel.  They had it priced at 250 which I didn't think was too bad.

257A1:  Just to advise you on 218 Bee loads on converted 22 Hornet barrel.  The 218 case is shorter than the 22 Hornet.  Even with the bullet seated out, there will be some considerable jump from the chamber to the barrel which will affect accuracy.  I had a H&R that had this conversion.  Also, the rifling has a 1-16 twist so stick to 40 and 45 grain bullets as the long twist will not stablize a heavier (and longer) bullet.  A better conversion would have been 22 K-Hornet.  This barrel could be converted to 221 Fireball or 222 Remington with a rechamber and the extractor converted to rimless but you would still have to use the light bullets which is not all bad.  If you ever decide you don't want this barrel, please give me a shout.  Good Luck.  2520
