Trigger "seasoning"?
« on: March 25, 2012, 03:49:09 PM »
I weighed the trigger on my Springfield Range Officer today.  It tipped somewhere between 5 and 5 1/4 pounds.  Its crisp but a  little heavy for my liking.  I've only put about 75 rounds thru it so far, and my buddy suggested waiting until theres 300 or so rounds before doing anything because it will get lighter as the sear and striker get worn and polished.  What do you think?  Is this reasonable?
I want to keep it CMP legal which is 4# min.  Thanks.
Jim

It will definitely smooth out with use. I agree with your friend, shoot or dry fire it a LOT. Then disassemble it, clean it well, and use a good synthetic lube of your choice on the wear/contact points. Doubt you'll feel the need for a trigger job afterward.

Put some moly on the sear then dry fire it a few times and measure it again.

The old A5 browning shotguns came with a note saying shoot it 500 times to breakin. shoot your 1911 (another Browning design ) 500 times then decide. Either you and it will get along or you will find it needs adjusting.

Thanks for the input.  Sounds like some trips to the range.  Believe me I need the practice!

that's the thing with a trigger job the trigger gets better . with a 500 round shooting both the shooter and trigger gets better  ;)
