45LC Handi is ready!
« on: March 26, 2012, 01:49:04 PM »
Today I checked my game camera and to my surprise I found some interesting pics. I ususally get pics of just raccoons and turkeys. This time I caught a few pics of two different bobcats, two coyotes and a big ol' hog. I have only seen one other hog out there and he got filled with some Dead Coyote T shot. Not this one though, he's gonna get a .452" 335gr cast bullet at about 1400fps from my Handi. ;D  I'm saving some of my cowboy action cast loads for the raccoons. ;)

Yes, that's a raccoon swinging from my hanging bait!  :o

Thanks, Dinny

This is on a small farm just South of me. 142 acres and only about 10 are wooded. It does, however, adjoin to a much larger tract of wooded land that I am hoping to draw from. ;)

Thanks, Dinny

Good show Dinny!!

Knock'em dead!  ::) ;)

I have had soem experience here, the plastic tip jobbers will ususally do this... Try the HP/SP bullets I shoot the Hornady's thru mine, 20G for better penetration and the 17G for vermin.

I have shot THRU a coyotes head with the 20g bullets at about 60 yards.

Pete,
Except for the game, Oklahoma is a forsaken state. (I'm sure someone will object to that! ::) ) I put cheap dog food in the can, place soured corn mixed with strawberry Kool-Aid mix in holes and hang a homemade concoction from parachute cord.

Thanks, Dinny

Dinny,

I am very concerned about your overworked 45LC as you might just wear out the rifling trying to keep all those varmints out of your bait bucket.   I better load up the Jeep and head down your way with a couple of backup Handis. ;)

BTW, it is almost April, have a good time on leave and makin' bullets with your friend.  I hope all the lead that was shipped didn't collapse his front porch and injure one of his coon dogs. ;D

BB,
My First Sergeant and his son are gonna take the reigns after I deploy next month and continue feeding those varmints. He plans to feed them a steady diet of lead. ;)  The lead pot is warming up in preparation for my leave time. I can't wait!

Lol. What game cam, if I may ask. Been tempted to put one out around my place.
Keep finding tracks and scat for boar and bear out here, and hear them often enough, but rarely actually see either. (though my two surprise bear encounters turned out more amusing than anything- one ran as soon as I had stepped out to get something out of my truck, the other, on a different night, stood his ground, but was not aggressive- in fact, he seemed to completely ignore that I was even there, lol)

The game cam is a Stealth Cam i540 or something close to that. I started with the cheaper Moultrie D40s and had decent results with them. So you have wild boars and bears cohabitating in the same area? How does that work? Who is superior to who?

Thanks, Dinny from Pasab

By having no other choice, really, I guess. Havent seen/heard of any interactions between the two.

We get a little bit of everything out here -from Gator to Bear/Boar/Coyote/bobcat, plus all the usual critters. We're on the very edge of rural/suburban terrain. Go east/south a few hundred meters, everything is rural/marsh/swamp and farmlands. Go a couple hundred meters east/north and it's becomming sub-divisions, super-malls, condos, etc. Between recent land-developments, and forrest-fires over the last yr. or so, all the wildlife is being pushed out into the remaining rural areas, and sometimes into the new suburban areas.
The bear encounters are few, and rare- but they are becomming more common than anyone is crazy about. I average seeing one about once every 2-3 months or so. Boar, a bit more often than that.Coyote I will see./hear maybe once in 6 months.

Almost forgot- the Bobcats. We've always had Bobcats out here, for as long as I can recall.
Odd thing is, they are very tame- too used to humans, and even pets and livestock out here. Just acting like any other stray cat, really.
In fact, we recently discovered that one of the female Bobcats had actually mated with my next-door's male Persian house cat lol. This recently made for one of the craziest-looking litters of kittens.
Will try to grab a pic, and post here, next time I spot one. They've got the short/bobbed tail and overall shape/features of Bobcats- but with this crazy, lush, long hair poofing all over the place lol.

There was a mixbreed cat up in the North East USA I saw on a show like that.  Might have been a lynx though.  Cannot remember for sure where though.  Was on Animal Planet some time back.  This is one from California also going for recognition I guess...
