Updated yesterday at 6:27 PM(WHAS11) – Stephanie Decker is finally home. She’s the woman who lost both of her legs while protecting her children from an EF4 tornado that destroyed her home finally went home on March 26. "It feels good to be back. It feels good to be home," said Stephanie Decker as she arrived home Monday.
It's been more than three weeks since Decker was first rushed to University Hospital after her injuries.
On March 16, she was released from the hospital and went to Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital for intensive rehabilitation.
Now, she's getting to go home. Every time we've talked to Decker since she was hurt, her spirits have been high and her determination strong.
That was the case on Monday, when she was finally allowed to be with her family.
Stephanie saved both children when she wrapped a blanket around them and shielded them with her body when a tornado destroyed her home March 2.
"I'm just so thankful that they lived and they didn't have a scratch on them," Decker said a few days after she was rescued.
The Deckers are moving back into the house they used to live in, in Sellersburg before they built the house that was torn down in the storm.
The family that was renting that house agreed to move out to help out the Deckers. Dozens of friends and family members have been working hard over the past few days making it accessible for when Stephanie moved back in.
"It's really humbling, it is. It's amazing that so many people have put their life on hold just to help us," Decker said.
