You seem to already have all you need. There are many ways to make the Nagant into the rifle you are looking for. 7.62-54R is very good round for deer.

I have a CMP M-1 Garand I got several yrs ago-stock is VG, barrel was Depot-Replaced in the late 50s-bore is excellent. Have fired it due to some forum posts on commercial 30-06 being too hot and some other stuff like this. I have a supply of '73 Match ammo and AP WWII stuff that I'm sure would be safe, but I'd like to take a deer with it "Just because I can". I reload for 25+ calibers, but haven't been active since a move several yrs ago. I know Hornady loads some 30-06 A-Max. Any comments on that? What about pulling bullets from the 1973 Match ammo and adding 150/165 Sierras (got both)? Appreciate any advice.

I have often thought about hunting with my Garands also. If I ever do I will reload using an appropriate charge of IMR4895 and whatever 150 gr. bullet I have on hand. As easy as the 30-06 is to load I don't think it is worth the effort to tear down the match ammo.
I'd just shoot those up rather then tear them down!
