Anyone have any experience hunting in the perryville area? I am headed down there in May to get a brownie for my trophy room.

Thanks,

Rick

Perryville bears

I haven't walked around the Perryville area but I used to live in Sand Point a little further down the Peninsula and hunted the mainland from there and in the Cold Bay area - moslty just caribou.  But there should be some good bears in the Perryville area.  I believe the whole peninsula is managed for large bears with the every other year season.

Are you going on your own or guided?  You'll be much more likely to find a truly big bear with a guide as they'll be set up to get you in the right country.  Usually the locals knock off a few bears closer to town and most big bears have sense enough to stay away.  Never know for sure though - I've seen some fairly big bears in the King Cove area.  Good luck.

I am definately being guided, I a from St. Louis area and travel to Alaska every year to hunt bear. This is my first Brown Bear and I am counting the days. Anything over nine feet will be fine with me, I just gotta figure out where I am gonna put this guy once I get him stuffed. Thanks for the info about Perryville, I can't wait to get back in the bush!!!

I am using Speacialized Guide Services, Bud Willard. Already got one good reference on him from Knight's Taxidermy in Anchorage. Less then 60 days until I hit the ground in Perryville.
