MCA adapter & extractor jammed in NEF 22 250
« on: March 28, 2012, 08:09:36 AM »
Put the new MCA adapter in a new NEF 22 250 & adapter & extractor both jammed.
Pushed out the MCA firing pin when I tried to push it out with a rod.
Thoughts?

Maybe a picture would help with your question. I have many questions that it would answer...

Is it adaptor or fired case that stuck?

Did the adapter slide past the ejector/extractor?

Is it jamber IN the camber partially or fully?

What do you mean pushed primer out?

Was the case factory or reloaded? If reloaded have you fired this lot of ammo in any other firearm? Did it have problems?

Have you used this adapter before or was this first shot?

What do the instructions say to do when insertting and removing? Perhaps a call to them on the phone would help....<><....:)

+1, first thing I'd do is contact MCA!  ;)

Good luck with that, they don't have the best tract record of for contact IIRC.

Be aware they sell broken shell extractors to remove them for a reason.

Simply coat the the outside of the adapter with non permanent Locktite™, place a fired 7.62x39 case inside the chamber and close the bolt. After 10-12 hours, eject the 7.62x39 case and you are ready to start shooting. Inexpensive Russian ammo costs 25-50% less than any regular 308 or 30-06. A broken shell extractor will remove the adapter and return the gun to it's original caliber. If you are careful, the adapter is reusable!

Also available in 308/30-06. Each kit includes one tube of Locktite™.

Complete kit: only $25.00. Broken shell extractors: $10.00

This is what I am talking about - www.mcace.com/
I got the adapter out with alot of difficulty.
The MCA adapter does not slide in past the extractor/ejector. It slides in fine until the last eigth inch so I'm thinking I should take some fine sandpaper to the extractor at the "bullet end"

Measure the OAL of the adapter and then compare that to the SAAMI OAL for a 22-250 case and see if the adapter is too long.  Then mic the neck, shoulder, body and casehead of the adapter and see how that compares to the SAAMI OD for a 22-250.

Gotta Have A digital caliper, it's the law. ;D    I bought a 32 H&R Mag chamber adapter for my 30-06 and I had to shorten it a bit with a 1" table mounted belt sander to get the gun to close.  Also had to clean the outside of the adapter quite a bit as it was covered in oil/residue.

A 'fat' head' end of the adapter and a tight (high) extractor/ejector claw will cam up and jam a case (or adapter). Checking against SAAMI specs is always a good first step, as is some black Magic Marker on the adapter to actually see the jamming spot after extraction.

If you call Ace Dube at MCA and he will give you several different ways to remove it without damage to your rifle.  I speak from personal experience!  It took me about three tries to talk to him.  He has an email address, but you have to remember when you call him that it is run by him and his wife, and usually they have other things going on besides sitting by the phone in Alaska.  Another thing to consider is that not only is he probably in a different time zone but he has significantly longer "days" during the summer!  If I had more daylight I would try to take the most advantage of it I could!

I trashed the adapter getting it out.
They had me send them a fired case & are building me a new adapter at no cost. I can't complain.
