ATV in short 6.5' box GMC
« on: March 28, 2012, 01:10:02 PM »
Anyone here of a Ogre made riser?

Google "ogre made ATV riser" and you will see what I mean..( for some unknown reason I cannot post a link...)

I would like to make my own using this as a idea only out of light steel.

Any ideas/comments?

I need to trailer and carry a machine in the bed. SO the gate needs to be closed...

A lot of guys have built similar but less complicated rigs to do the job.  A 24' length of 2x2 angle, cutoff saw and a welder along with a little imagination and time can result in just what you need.  I see a lot of guys with tool boxes and fuel tanks in the bed who just ramp up the front end of the quad and allow it to ride on the box itself. If I see my neighbor back the road I'll get a pic of his for you.  Basically just 2 ramps with a well on top like garage ramps that set in the bed on a rubber bed liner.

Thats a idea...  I would be conserned about that weight on the bed sides and all the miles riding up there might have...

BUT I was thinking of building a "head ache rack" as well and if I integrated the two together... I could add the two uprights at the frame (in the bed) and sit on top of the bed sides......  THANKS!

Hmmmmm, sounds like you're gonna need 2 lengths of angle.  I saw a rig on Black Mountain some time ago where a guy had incorporated a roll bar/light bar into his design but I don't remember exactly how it was all combined.

LOL...

Like most things I make I get a bit involved...  ::) Keeps me outta the bar and saves a few coins at the same time.

I had a couple ideas floating around in my brain, but want minimalist for this truck, so maybe just a bar or hoop a foot and a half up to stop the tire should it try to get back out of the "well" it will rest in... Its not a work truck by any stretch so simple protection for the back window is all I really need.

I made some quick numbers today and looks like 40' is about right...

You haven't gotten too involved until you realize you need heavier springs on the back of the truck when you get done.  Guess how I know.   ::)   Ask my son this evening if he remembered the guy with the roll bar rig in his truck and his reply was " Ya mean the guy that threw the wheeler's winch cable over the bar to lift it up so the tailgate would shut?"  Sorry that's all we remember other than the fact it was a novel idea.  It'll be interesting to see what you do. 8)
