Built a forend (picts.)

First of all, thank you to all that gave me their 2 cents.  If you want more info please let me know.  This is just my first, I am building more.  I found some old maple that blew down durring the ice storm years ago and:
1. used the table saw to form a square block
2. drilled a 3/4 hole down the center
3.drilled a 1" hole down 5 or 6 inches
4. ripped it in 1/2
5. used a band saw to cut out the notch for the reciever
6. used files and sandpaper to make it fit.
7. shaped the outside
8. finished the outside
9. drilled to holes to hold it on.(not fun)
10 mounted it to the barrel

The pictures are before and after.  I think it looks pretty good.
BEFORE

AFTER

I had to include a 50 yard target after I shot it with the new forend.

Good work Buck.  I'm impressed.  It seems like it would be tough to drill such a long straight hole for the barrel channel.  I know how tough it is just to drill the holes for the mounting screws.

That's an awesome forearm!  I hate, absolutely hate, the barrel clamp.  I can't believe that I shelled out the cash to buy such a piece of junk.  I've been thinking about building my own forearm as well, but never thought to drill the hole directly through the unfinished block and rip in half.  That's a fantastic idea!  Great job.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)
