Lets get back to basics.
« on: March 30, 2012, 05:10:22 PM »
Don't start noth'in wont be noth'in. We carry guns to protect our selves from criminals. Is it really that hard for some to wrap their heads around. The criminals have to many rights. If they mess with someone, or their property, they get what they get. Don't protect them. Law enforcement needs to back off on prosecuting the gun owners, who are forced to use deadly force, because of some a-hole. We are a solution to a problem, not an extention of one. Are rights to bare arms are under attack all the time, while criminals rights are getting stronger. IT'S BS!

IMO The train has left the Station a long time ago and is not on a circular track.

Ummmm, well if you really want to get to the basics of 'gun control', basically it is the problem of citizens controlling the guns/armanents that the government collects which are used to coerce and harm civilians--and that is an historical fact....That, sir, is real gun control....not the other way around....

I think they have the same rights as you do. As it should be.

Is there some particular case you're thinking of, where citizen has been (unfairly?) prosecuted for protecting hisself?
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

I think if someone intentionaly breaks the law, their rights should be forfeted.

We have to stop candy coating everything. We should not have to worry, if we have to defend ourselves from the bad guys. The bleeding hearts that feel for the criminals, probably never had to deal with them. Im not going to debate my opinion on the issue any longer. I did not think I was alone in this. :o

you are not alone in feeling this way.  but a lot of people have gotten tired of argueing with a certain pair of liberals.

Well, maybe for some things, once convicted. I don't like the idea of a man losing his civil rights (such as voting, gun owning) for some felonies.
FWIW - I'm fine with shooting scoundrels who in the midst of an assault.

Criminals don't take our rights, they violate them. It's the juditial system and law enforcement that are taking ours. They seam to think we need to protect the criminals rights, which should be 0. Basicly what I'm saying is if you "have" to protect your self, you should'nt have to worry about getting in trouble with the law. Yes you must abide by it, but it seam like more and more, they are finding ways to charge inocent people, for stupid S . The last thing you should do is have to hesatate, in that situation, because you might get in trouble. (My daddy always said shoot first and ask questions later. I was going to ask him why he says that, but I would have had to shoot him first. Obviously I'm joking. ;D )

Well I'm in my mid 50's now, and when I think back years ago, there were very few states letting their citizens carry guns and issuing CPL's.
Now I notice way more than half are issuing CPL's, and self defense laws and castle laws have been put in place in many places. I have to say overall we are losing liberties in may area's for sure, but looking back 15 years, seems we have gained in the gun area in many places, I never thought it would be possible to get this far in so many states, with a couple more trying to get on board as well.  I think overall, we have gained more liberties with guns.  Which is a good thing because we are losing liberties elsewhere.  Either way, if your life or your families life is in danger, do what you need to do, self defense is a natural God given right that goes to every living thing on this planet no matter what any law says.

You must have flunked grade school Civics. "Rights" are unalienable. That is what makes them rights and not privileges. By definition they can not be revoked, repealed  or even voluntarily surrendered.

OTOH, some people lend support to the premise that literacy tests for both voting and gun ownership would be a good idea.
I think, I feel, and I believe are not synonymous. Doing an Archie Bunker impression and going on an illogical rant surely is not likely to impress any of the millions of undecided voters on this issue. It will convince many of them that the pro-gun movement is driven by a bunch of illiterate unreasoning bigoted rednecks. With supporters like those we don't need enemies.

IS THAT REALLY THE REASON? WHAT ARE THE ODDS THAT YOU WILL NEED TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM A CRIMINAL EVER IN YOUR LIFETIME AND YOU WILL JUST HAPPEN TO HAVE THE GUN HANDY WHEN THE CRIMINAL STRIKES. I THINK PEOPLE WANT AND CARRY GUNS IS TO FEEL POWER OVER OTHERS.

To defend myself from criminals is the exact reason I carry a gun. It has nothing to do with making me feel better about myself, but it has everything to do with being prepared if the need arises. The odds of being attacked are fairly low, but it does happen, and if it happens to me and my loved ones I refuse to stand there helpless to do anything about it. I'm not even sure how a concealed weapon would give you power over anyone, if they can't see it then it can't make them fear or take you any more seriously. So why carry something you may never need right? Well, I can't remember the last time I had a flat tire, but I still carry a spare tire, jack, and lug wrench in my truck just incase. Also just because I have a spare doesn't make me go looking for sharp objects to run over just so I can use it. As a matter of fact I still try to avoid potential danger even though I have the tools to handle it, both with my gun and my spare tire, which oddly enough is concealed also.

+1- The people that post against my OP have never had to deal with it first hand. JMO. Turn the other cheek ? really, does that really apply in a life or death situation.

Why must you ridicule me ? So I'm not as smart as you, does that make my opinion less credible ? I hope your never in a situation where you see it my way.
