what kind of press?

If you wanted to load around 1000 rds/mo. 357 sig, what would you buy?  A turret or progressive.   Which one?  A back issue magazine shows four turret presses;  Dilllon AT 500($194), Reddeing T-7($299),  Lyman T Mag($155), and the RCBS($202).   What about the Lee pro 100 progressive press?  Only $130?

Jarhead:

Since you just started with IPSC, you will be shooting a lot and it will be very important to have a good press.  I recommend doing what I did and holding out until you can afford a Dillon 550.  You will not regret it. The baby Dillon is good, but everyone I've ever communicated with on the topic has eventually upgraded to a 550 or 650 Dillon.

When loading in those volumes reliability and durability are of paramount importance.  My own game is Bullseye, and if it were not for progressive pressess-- the Dillon 550 in particular-- I probably would have given it up.  When you buy it, also get the maintenance and spare parts kit. It's an extra $20 that will be well spent.

By the way, don't waste your time with a turret press. Just forget about them. They are a relic of the days before presses like the Dillon 550 existed.

Turret presses are not a relic. They allow me to change calibers quickly when loading small runs of ammo. The are not a substitute for a progressive press if you load quantity.
