Please read Dr. Albert Bartlett on Compounding and the Exponential Function…the greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function…you can find his presentation on Google or http://www.chrismartenson.com/print/429

[to students] you have roughly sixty years life expectancy ahead of you. Let’s see what some common things will cost if we have 60 years of 7% annual inflation.

The students found that a 55-cent gallon of gasoline will cost $35.20; $2.50 for a movie will be $160; the $15 sack of groceries my mother used to buy for a dollar and a quarter, that will be $960; a $100 suit of clothes, $6,400; a $4000 automobile will cost a quarter of a million dollars; and a $45,000 home will cost nearly 3 million dollars.

another:

...don't believe any prediction of the life expectancy of a non-renewable resource until you have confirmed the prediction by repeating the calculation. As a corollary, we have to note that the more optimistic the prediction, the greater is the probability that it’s based on faulty arithmetic or on no arithmetic at all.

and another:

Quote
...think about this, think about the definition of modern agriculture: it's “the use of land to convert petroleum into food.” And we can see the end of the petroleum.

and not the least of which:

You’ve heard thousands of people talking endlessly about sustainability; did they ever tell you the first law? Here it is: population growth and/or growth in the rates of consumption of resources cannot be sustained. That’s simple arithmetic. Yet nobody that I'm encountering will tell you about that when they're talking about sustainability. So I think it’s intellectually dishonest to talk about saving the environment, which is sustainability, without stressing the obvious fact that stopping population growth is a necessary condition for saving the environment and for sustainability.

The rest of the LONG article is as profound, thought provoking, and more importantly - DISTURBING; more disturbing than ALL current POLITICS, FINANCIAL CRISIS, Gun Control, etc., rolled into one...and it isn't Rocket Science.  It is SIMPLY MATHEMATICS but end effect of the numbers is CERTAIN.

That is the reason for crashes and depressions, to get things back to reality in value and cost. Artifically preventing the crash or artifically prolonging the depression are tools that can be used to achieve power shifts and political changes.
-
The crash depression cycle has happened about every 50 years.

I have an Ag degree ( yeah, I know I drive a semi ). It was often said in class that Ag scientists (insert farmers anywhere you feel comfortable ) held the keys to mans future and I would be well respected and admired for what I would be doing. I learned these fundamentals pretty early on, and I'm pretty sure it was not in college. For several generations now science has been supporting this planet. There are those who will tell you this is not sustainable. There are still others who will tell you this too shall pass, and science will jerk us out of the fire and back into the frying pan.

History would have me believe we will be okay, maybe life will be vastly different, but we will continue to prosper going down different pathways. My observations of the natural world around me leads me to believe that the boom bust cycle cannot be defeated only postponed. There is a bad day coming, the fall will be necessarily brutal. But when?

Alex Jones would have you believe the fall is being orchestrated as we speak. I'm believing more along his line of thought all the time. Much is hyperbole in my opinion. Possibly his extremism is to meant open peoples eyes, and less an accurate portrayal  of what the future really holds. I believe the human race will not allow those "power elites" to accomplish their goals, but will in the end reduce the population through simple economic pressures. The localized famines will continue until the logic of population control reaches those localities. Most of the first world communities are reducing their populations on their own. The tough love of allowing the starvation and war and disease has been allowed for quite some time now. It will continue.

And that explains how the National Budget has gotten way out of control over the last 20 years.
And why you have schools and other governemnt agancies spending wildly to use up their budget so they get the increase next year.
Base line bugeting.  It is what is killing us.

This is a fact.

I have a friend that works in public transportation, that is fully government funded. He has told me numerous times, that the money wasted near the end of the budget year is unbelievable. The waste is monumentous because their is no incentive to spend money wisely. Just spend it all, and get the same and most likely more the next year. Its the same anywhere, whenever or wherever government funds something.

What did a loaf of bread cost in 1900 or a gallon of gas in 1930. Nothing has changed.
