 That would have been my first guess!
 I have one that I got new back around 1960-61 while I was in college. it kept my wife and I in meat many times back then, times were a little lean so used .22 shorts mostly. Squirrels were usually the target, so essentially headshots were the norm!
 I just got mine out of the safe today and will be putting a new scope on it!
