there was a local craft fair with candidate booths several years ago, and I questioned all three about various issues.  the libertarian sounded very good until I mentioned abortion and he was exactly like the democrat."let the mother choose what she does with here body".  RP is a RINO. he called himself a republican to get elected, but he's really libertarian.

He's a fiscal conservative running in a "conservative" based party.  How does that make him a Libertarian?

If anything I'd call him a Constitutionalist.

But then I have to ask myself... Why am I arguing with a man who wouldn't consider voting for Ron Paul because "He lied once."   I suppose if Ron Paul carried around a Bible and thumped on his chest about how bad gay people, muslims and abortions are you guys would be kissing his feet...

I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

RP is a RINO. he called himself a republican to get elected, but he's really libertarian. at least santorum would try to rescue, in Jesus words, the least of these. this man is not presidential.

And if you want a theologian and chief , not a commander and Chief -  and are comfortable with that you should vote for Santorum. Just remember go in eyes wide open . You get his Catholic doctrine, and his Catholic doctrine only . His way or the Highway. He does not care what other denomination think.

People don't seem to understand the difference nowadays between being a Republican and being
a conservative. Ron Paul is the most constitutional conservative candidate in reality not just rhetoric.

I have no argument with you RP is a Libertarian if that label makes you feel better.
However he is a conservative Libertarian.

So if you just want to feel comfortable with The warm fuzzies and need that representative R designation-  vote Santorum.

however,  if want a true constitutional conservative Ron Paul is the candidate in my opinion whether there is an "R"or and "I" or any other designation makes no difference.

It comes down to what values does each candidate hold that are most important to me personally as an individual  -
You answer that , then you know which way to vote.

The republican party has been so hijacked by the extremist right wing of the Party I don't even
recognize the party I grew up with.  Today even Ronald Reagan would not pass muster with the
republican extremist imposed Litmus test.

I hope folks are not just basing decisions on drive by media points but actually going to each candidates websites , reading what each candidate stands for, their proposals , what bills they endorse , what changes they propose and where applicable , look at each candidates true voting records. Then cast your vote based on an informed position.

As for me I'll stick with RP.

you and another here are doing some fibbing.  every time I've mean-mouthed RP, I qualified it by saying that if he's nominated, he'll get my vote.  I would never fail to vote.  your throw-away vote is a vote for obama.  so who's doing the most harm here?

Libertarians come in all shapes and sizes! They basically believe in individual freedoms as long as it doesn't interfere with others. The Republican party has libertarian leaning people in it, and at one time had many even at the National level."Regrettably" not enough now it would seem.Ron Paul, unlike Santorum leads by example....Not hollow words! As a Doctor, he has delivered many, many babies. Never aborted one!Anyone with ears, and listens to him knows he is NOT pro Abortion, and would never have an agenda that would jeopardize the lives of innocents.

He doesn't wear Jesus on his sleeves, but is obvious to some of us, he has him in his heart.
If you Google the republican party and it's platform, I think you will see, he fits the description head and shoulders above anyone running! He believes in, and adheres to that document that Politicians so love to quote, but seldom practice...(The Constitution).
Freedom Of Speech.....Once we lose it, every other freedom will follow.

I think many, many "evangelical" politicians use it as a mere stepping stone to power.  The word actor comes to mind...

Stop and think about that for a minute Bug.  Who IS doing the most harm?  The people who have decided enough is enough.  Or the lacksydaisy ones who keep having faith in a two party system that no longer has two separate parties?

I did stop and think.  another for years of obama will be disastrous.  and since obama would massacre RP in the debates, I did not vote for him in the primary.
BTW, Santorum would fight for innocent unborn babies, not leave it up to the likes of jerry brown and his girly men.

Or........"I voted for a man who is just as big a socialist as Obama and cannot beat him anyway! And if he does by some remote chance win, may turn out to be worse than Obama!"

You know I'm getting more than a little sick and tired of hearing this "vote for anyone but ****** is a vote for Obama" crap! Personally, I see a vote for any socialist gun grabber as a vote for cowardice! The kind of cowardice that fears one man so much that it will vote one just exactly like him to sooth their fears of having to live under the constitution as intended by the founding fathers, and their absolute terror of the thought of living with true freedom..

In fact.....every time I read that stupid phrase I suspect the writer of trying to less than subtley influence people to actually vote directly for Obama. Is that it? Do you really want us RP supporters to check the Obama slot on the ballot? Because that's what it sounds like you are trying to achieve.......maybe none of you are really Romney supporters.......or even conservative, maybe you are all socialist gun grabber types hiding behind the name?????

Whatever.....it is disgusting, reading this crap of trying to label those who support a true constitutionalist and freedom loving candidate as Obama supporters. I'd think you would be better than that! But Nooooo............you gotta disparage those with true moral values, who vote their priniciples. That crap is what got us here in the first place........moral cowardice!

Now go ahead and jump on me........but it won't change what you are, really.

We once upon a time there was the Sons of Liberty vs. the Tories. Another way of putting it was those who wanted liberty vs. those who desired the status quo. In the beginning, the Tories had control as many were afraid of freedom. Even Benjamin Franklin sided with the Tories early on as it profited him being post master general. The Sons of Liberty wished to throw off the yoke of government control, but many fearful people waned. Finally, the Sons of Liberty prevailed as the yoke upon the people became even tighter. Eventually freedom was won but one fatal mistake was made. They gave us another central government, against the wishes of many who opposed, albeit with checks and controls that over time evaporated; and now the yoke is upon us even tighter than in the beginning. Ron Paul is a Son of Liberty. The others are not. How can I be a Tory as some would have me to be?

Ron Paul is winning the battle:

some wise folks on this forum have noted that the liberals have used incrementalism to erode the freedoms in this country.
they also noted that it's not going to change overnight, and that we need to turn the tables on the libs by using their tactics against them.
that means getting rid of obama by any means available, and then coming together in "tea party type" activism.    but, it won't happen because the RP supporters hate anyone who doesn't fall in line with them.  they would rather have communism than dig in and become part of the solution.

If you think communism can't happen here, just look back over the last four years and notice how obama has bypassed congress and wiped his butt on the Constitution.

We "hear" stuff all the time
Buddy Roemer's campaign is still chugging along and even got a boost this week: he finally received those FEC funds he qualified for back in February. The Republican-turned-third-party-presidential candidate took in $185,470.11 to match the amount he'd raised on his own. He was the first GOP candidate in this year's election cycle to become eligible for this deal.

In February, based on Roemer’s initial threshold submission, the Commission requested that the United States Treasury make an initial payment of $100,000 to Roemer’s campaign. On March 22, the Commission voted to certify a second payment, and it transmitted that request to the Treasury on March 23.  This raises the total amount of federal funds certified thus far to Roemer, the first 2012 presidential candidate to be declared eligible by the Commission to receive federal matching funds, to $285,470.11. Roemer is seeking the nomination of Americans Elect and the Reform Party for president in 2012.

I don't know much about him either , but he is a former Republican from Louisiana, planning to run Third party.
