Survivor stock good with scope?
« on: April 03, 2012, 03:37:20 AM »
I am thinking of setting up a .223 Handi with pistol grip synthetic stock.  What I am doing is making a combo gun, .223 and 20 gauge barrel.  My choices are the survivor stock or trying to get one of the handi grip stocks.  The forend is going to be the survivor style for quick takedown or barrel changes.  How is the survivor stock with a scoped handi?  It looks a little low for the higher rings needed to clear the hammer.  Would the handi grip be a better choice for using with the scope?

You can order the taller cheek rest from Choate, to go on the survivor stock. :)

Is it listed on their site?  I looked and didn't see anything.

I use foam pipe insulation on mine, mostly because I'm cheap, but also because it works and it's what I had....

All my handis wear scopes. I have a few shotguns with bead sites too. I find the survivor and handi grip far too low for scope use.

The pipe insulation is a great idea!!

Ben,
What holds the pipe insulation on?  Did you glue it to the stock?

Double sided mounting tape.  The little 3M tabs that you mount hooks to the wall work well also.  Layer it for added height.

That pipe insulation looks about my speed....cheap.  I think I have some of that kicking around.  Something easy to take on and off would be great.  I am looking to use a shotgun barrel and maybe 30-30 open sight barrel.  Anyone have experience with the handi grip stock?  How is it with the scope.  I could still use the survivor forend for quick takedown.
