45/70 Ranch Dog
« on: April 04, 2012, 08:09:31 AM »
Anyone have a good trapdoor to lever gun load for the Ranch Dog .458-350gr or equivalent?

I have:
Imr 4198
Varget
H322
W748
Lil Gun
H110
and others. No RL 7 that I see a lot using.

Trying to cut my load development time down, if possible.

I love 30 grains of IMR-4198.

Swampman,

Is that with a Ranch Dog 350gr cast?

That's with a 405 cast.  One hole at 100 yards.

All kidding aside, I agree IMR 4198 and RL7 are THE powders I choose for the 45/70 and of them 4198 ismy first choice.

Many others will work, 4198 is my choice...

Last time I shot my Ruger #3, I thought I was missing the whole target after the first shot.  When I went down range I realized there were quite a few shots in the same hole.  It's amazing at 100 yards.

Swampy, you must be really impressed with it cause it took ya more than one line to say it ;D ;D   Kidding aside, IMR 4198 is my choice too for the .45-70.  I'm shooting the .405 Remingtons from 1200 fps to 1950 fps and it's very accurate all the way.  I can't help you with the Ranch Dogs.  I've never used them.
