17 HH - 17 Rem FB Handi
« on: April 05, 2012, 08:59:10 AM »
Got home and fixed the Hexigon chambered 17 HH of cwlongshot today.  Looks good, the 17 FB cleans up the 17 HH chamber just fine, now CW has the ability to test these little 17's side by side in the same barrel (almost), so we expect a range report in a week or so.  Larry

LARRY IS the MAN!!!

You can count on the range report!!

I THOUGHT the 17 HHH might take off and become popular until I discovered Hexagon shaped shells don't extract so well....  :-[ :-*   ::)

17 HHH is 17 Hexagon Hornady Hornet. ;)

What you really need in 17 cal to put it out there is this:

17 Remington next to the 17 HH.  It will put a 30 gr bullet out faster than the 17 HH will a 20gr bullet.  One bad thing, my experience with this chambering in a H&R was less than good while I have had good success with the 17 Remington FB in the H&R's.  I shoot this in a Savage 10.  Larry

Has anyone else noticed a 17 Ackley Hornet 30deg shoulder angle and how far from the base the shoulder starts, is very close to Benchrest case specs? The shoulder starts a little too far forward, ideally it would start at .99" from the base. I am going to modify a 17 AH to 22 cal, maybe push the shoulder back, but i will try it without the shoulder push back and with the 30d first. I'll call it an L Hornet, fits right in with the various Hornet versions.

I was going to do another 223 Short version but I have both the 223 Short and the 221 FB and 22 Hornet cases sitting on my CD burner, staring me in the face for over a year now, and as it is the cheapest project after the 223 Short, it got my nod yesterday. Plan to start this spring/summer right after 223 Short light bullet testing is completed.

Thanks for helping reinforcing the idea of using these small, efficient and cheap cases.

Benchrest case spec? You have to remember that there are also several K Hornet reamers. The .22 mink looks like fun also. If you are wnating a BR round, rechamber a Hornet for a .22 PPC or .22 BR.

My obsession is minimum powder usage maximum accuracy. A hornet hold 0.79cc powder, 22 PPC a little under 2cc and 22 BR a little over 2cc.
