Dark Side.
« on: April 06, 2012, 08:23:29 AM »
A little late night Gunbroker browsing has led me to the dark side. Saw a Rossi "youth combo, matched pair" 18.5" .22lr and 22" .410 and picked it up for the kids for this summer. $180 after shipping and ffl fees. I've only had the chance to briefly look at it. Covered in cosmoline, but it's some kind of matte nickel type finish and comes with a soft breakdown case. Will advise on fit & finish and trigger after I get it cleaned up.

The overall smallness of this thing makes it hard to really judge it. But, finish is fair. It appears that Rossi uses a barrel stubbing process because both barrels appear to be  seated in a larger stub unit to which the pivot lug appears integral on the .22lr barrel but which appears welded on the .410 barrel. The forend lugs are somewhat shoddily welded on. The receiver appears very similar to an H&R, as does the pivot lug, although the extractor/ejector is different in appearance but works basically the same way. As you can see in the photo above, it has a strange left side mounted, large safety switch. Uses a transfer bar system as well. The .22lr barrel comes with a "firesight" type set of sights including the rear sight being screw adjustable for windage and elevation. It is tapped for a scope base as well. The .410 barrel has a basic brass bead.

I bought one of these in blue for the grandkids a couple years ago.  Adequate, not bad at all.  Thousands through the 22 so far.

The sights are plastic, don't bump them....you can only use a Rossi scope base as far as I know, but it wasn't that expensive if I remember right.

All in all a good starter for youngsters.

I have one, stubbed the 410 into a 22 Hornet and reamed the 22lr to a 22 Mag.  The scope base is the same as for a TC hand gun, and the gun is built on a narrowed frame.  The pins are in the exact same position on the frame as H&R's are, I would be surprised if the internals would not swap out.  Larry

I got one with a 20 ga for my grandkids. The 20 was a mistake. With fairly light loads it kicks your hat off. I guess I'll have to figgure out some ultra light loads for it.
Can't figgure out what it is exactly but the gun is a bit ugly to my eye. Probably the bulbous forearm.

Looks like we have some cattle strayin' away from the heard with these south of the border copy cats.  I think it is time to start the Handi Witch Trials.  Does anybody know where in the FAQs it tells you how to burn a witch at the stake? :o ::) ;D
