Ruger 10-22 Takedown
« on: April 06, 2012, 01:11:07 PM »
Just ordered one of the new takedown 10-22's. Should be the perfect addition to my camper. Anyone else had their hands on one of these yet?

I picked one up last week but haven't shot it yet. Takedown is simple with just the turn of a nut and push of a lever. I put a 2.5x Leupold in low rings on it, makes a nice compact package. I will probably just use it for plinking and as a truck gun. Everthing fits nicely in the case provided.

I havent seen this one yet! Great idea, and I'll probably buy one too. Used to carry a Butler Creek folding stocked 10/22 everywhere in my "kit". this one sounds like just wat the Dr ordered. Keep us posed on how they shoot, please...

Don't have one yet but I did handle one.   Can't see myself not getting one sometime.

I looked one over about a month ago---guess I didn't like it as much as I thought I would-----don't really see myself getting one----maybe as a novelty
What really would have been cool is if they had started with a Butler Creek stock and then given it the treatment

i looked at one  a mnth ago

it wobbled where the barrel met the frame

i can't see how it can be very accurate
no  use for an inaccurate 22

i can't EVER see myself getting one

it is larger than my 10/22 charger......that is extreemly accurate
the charger is also ready to fire with out assembly

I wonder if Ruger will be getting into the takedown market if this is successful???  I once saw on Gunbroker I think, a prototype Ruger 77 in 308 that was a takedown.  It was selling for $5k.
Interesting concept for the traveling hunter.

Why no one ever made an AR7 type gun in a bolt action is beyond me.

It's a neat rifle.  The whole idea of a takedown that packs into a floating stock has a lot going for it.  The only problem with the guns (and the reason I got rid of mine) is that they are unreliable.  Some guys have one that works, some of them are just jam-o-matics. Mine worked great when I got it, then came winter.  I tried shooting it in the cold and couldn't get a mag through it.  I figure 'what good is a fair weather only survival rifle?'.  No good at all.

A rifle with a similar overall design and configuration in a manual action, maybe a bolt or maybe a single shot break open like 45-70gov suggested, would be a great gun.

What I have read, they are very accurate, they shot it, took it apart put it back together, and shot it again.....no change in it's accuracy...........

well i got it out yesterday. At 50 yards it shot 1.5 inch 10 shot groups. About average or maybe a bit better then average for the 1022s i have. Removing and installing the barrel did move groups a bit but no more then a 1/2 at 50 yards so it should really effect the hunting ability of it.

Finally got mine. Mounted a VX-III 1.5 X 5 on it and took it to the range yesterday. It shot 3/4" groups at 50 yards and I took it apart and put it back together and shot it each time to see if it kept the same point of impact and it did move some, but only a half inch or so. Should do just fine for rabbits here where I live. If I want a tack driver I can always take one of my other rifles. This one goes, and stays in the camper. Camp meat for the elk camp. Life is good.
