I have tried various means to make HPs from standards.  One I tried was this one:  http://www.eabco.com/holoptr.html
Frankly, I was very disappointed in it.  The parts of the tool are so smallthat they must be held by the tips of the fingers..as well as holding the cartridge in place with just the tip of the index finger.  Then, after about 30 bullets the drill went dull..either that or clogged with lead.
There is another one being made by a contributor named D rock, over on rimfirecentral.com
It works on the principle that most rifles and handguns are built with SAAMI chambers, which have some "wiggle room"  as opposed to Bentz or target chambers.  As the tip is formed, the bullet is compressed to SAAMI size, making a closer fit. Users report better accuracy and more "punch" for game kill.  http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/vbclassified.php?do=ad&id=40815

   I have read good reports on Paco's Accuriz'r   http://www.leverguns.com/store/acurizer.htm

My homemade unit is much like Paco's. it works OK with standard .22 rifles, but are too snug for my Anschutz or CZ, others may work better with those rifles.
There also is Mr Waltz's tool..more costly, but apparently very good.  Here's some discussion:   http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=239273&highlight=D+rock+tool

I hunt with and target shoot with subsonics only. If you test them out a bit you will find some are softer than others. Just guessing it's the same with regular 22 lr ammo. For squirrel and rabbit I use rem sub sonics, they are the softest I have found and give pretty good accuracy in most of my rifles. For bigger things like coons, aguilla match rifle. They are a little harder lead. And for bigger things, aguilla 60 gr. They don't expand much at all in soft targets but they penetrate really good for groundhogs and beavers.
All of them go through a sizing tool I made kind of like a paco kelly nasty nose. It makes a big hp and allows a lot more energy to be delivered to the target. Squirrels get knocked in the air a foot or two on occasion when they are not hanging on. Most of the critters hit sound like a hammer thumped them. No twitching or flailing about. Body shots put a squirrel out before he hits the ground. This page has a pic of what the big hp nose looks like. http://www.leverguns.com/store/acurizer.htm

I just perused GunBroker.com looking at more than a dozen listings for Winchester 67's (w/ 27" bbls) and 67A's with 20+ inch tubes (youth models?).  All of the regular 67 models sport longish 27in barrels.  So do many of the Model 510's, 512's, 513's and 514's made by Remington, along with many other Winchester's or Savage or other makes .....

The possibility of lodging a stuck [CB] bullet in a barrel is something I've never witnessed, but the last couple posts highlight a real possibility with long-barreled guns.  And according to Mark White who founded Sound Technologies (Pelham, AL), after about 20in of barrel length or more, a .22 barrel can exert a lot of friction on a rimfire slug.

One more [real and important] item to delve into while studying and shooting rimfires.  ;)

the possiblity of a "stuck" bullet exist with any 22 LR  round. Low noise rounds are no differen't . Rounds fail from poor QC when being produced , poor storage , old age etc. I have seen several stick in a barrel none were low vel though just squib loads . They occure in center fire also.
Good shooting pratices should be praticed no matter the ammo or gun.
I have shot cb's , cb  long , the new quiet load and other rounds with little report with out a failure . I would think these loads would require more QC than the bulk cheap ammo in milk carton packaging.

Well, i bought 5 boxes of CCI quiet ammo.  So far i'm not too impressed with them.

First off, the  diameter of the bullet is such that i have to push the slide closed after each shot with my thumb on my old Colt Woodsman.  Yes, i do have to manually work the slide after each shot too, and i'm fine with that.  I just don't like having to push the action closed so the bullet will seat in the chamber.

Second, i've shot 5 racoons with them so far, and unless you make a direct brain shot, they don't kill all that well.  The Remington Cee Beee's kills tso much faster it isn't even funny.  The Rem. bullet is designed 100% better for hunting.

As far as noise, they still are pretty loud, as loud as Cee Beee's and both of those are much louder than Super Colibri's.

And miss all that wisdom ?  ;D

The CB's I have shot are not as good as the CCI quiet loads , I shoot them in a rifle.

Might be the bullet design. All varieties of CCI 22 LR I've inspected have a slightly longer driving band on them than other brands. No CCI round I've tried seats easily in rifles with shorter chambers (Like my CZs). I have to push the bolt home with some effort.

Of course it's the bullet design, it has a large driveing band.

It's the largest driveing band i've found in the low velocity ammo that's available today, and it's a pain to use in my Woodsman.
