There are several posts where Sabatti double rifles are discussed.  Here is one specific to Sabatti.

From what I recall the overall impression from purchasers was less than positive.

The biggest problem with them is, Sab slammed them out so fast that most have poor regulation.  SO, Sab regulated them by grinding on the rifleing at the muzzle to tip the bullets toward the target.

MANY owners are still having regulation problems, so they took them back to Cabela's.  Cabela's just put those same rifles right back on the rack, so now you may get a new DR, a used DR or ?.

No matter, it's all a poor way to do business and i wouldn't buy one for half what they are asking for them, as in the DR world the word is out, and Sab resale is now VERY poor to those in the know!

Supposedly Sab has stopped doing the muzzle grinding now.  And Cabellas has a 30 day return policy that can be taken advantage of if it doesn't shoot to regulation.

That said. a 9.3X74R from Chapuis is close to the amount you'd $pend on a Sab. and IS a quality entry level rifle.
 ($4500-5000)

That's true, but it's also true that many folks that returned their Sabs, those same DR's have went back on the racks as new guns.

I agree on the Chapuis, it's a VERY good DR, and a "best buy" in the DR market.

Hey DM,

Did you ever acquire your left handed Chapuis DR?

On the web.. I have seen several each time I look that are labeled used.

A close inspection should tell the tale but a 30 day return policy and a few boxes of Hornadys should make the decision. I did get to shoot a higher grade 45-70 and it was well regulated with 325grn Hornady's"Leveroution".

A buddy here has ordered a LF Chapuis in a 30R Blazer. That should make a great light caliber for here.
 The `boo better watch out!

I know this post is a little old but, I have had two Sabbattis first 9.3x74r left barrel shot 6 in higher than right 64yds took it back got a 45-70, barrels shot pretty level but 5to 6in spread at 50 yards. Returned to Cableas for refund. Would not recomend Sabbatti to any one.

Just an update to an necro thread..

If the rifle doesn't have an "X" infront of the serial number on the water table it's questionable.
The newer ones have it and Sabatti is now regulation the effective old fashioned way!
