Help finding good sights for a 98 Mauser?
« on: April 08, 2012, 11:35:04 PM »
I have a 98 Mauser that is sporterized with a fajen stock and chambered in 308 win. It wears open sights right now, Williams I believe. But I'm looking for something like the ghost ring sight for up close brush gun. I can't find any though. I've seen peep sight like the old style u always see on old lever actions but I don't know how good they are. Would like to find one with the bigger peep hole. Thanks for any help u can give me

Any peep sight with a removable aperture (such as Lyman, Williams, etc) can be easily made into a "ghost ring" sight simply by unscrewing the aperture and throwing it in your parts drawer.  Just sight thru the hole where the aperture used to be.

These are nice. I have one on my K31. With the largest aperature, it's close to being a ghost ring...

Here is a Lyman (Model 57 I believe) mounted on a 1909 Argentine Mauser that has been re-bored to 35 Whelen.  As was said before, just unscrew the peep, and use the hole as a ghost ring.  Very fast and accurate compared to regular rifle sights.  Last I looked, the Lyman model was selling for about $75.00, and is well made.  Requires 2 holes be drilled in the side of the receiver for mounting.

I really like the Mojo micro click on my 91-30. Might have to see about one on my K98
