I don't understand why the involved anti-pirate countries don't just outfit some "Q" ships like the British did during the world wars.  The pirates would attack these seemingly defenseless ships and would be in for a big surprise!  On the other hand, the Muslim countries and their buddies in the UN would whine that the poor, peace-loving Somalies were lured into taking up piracy by the big, bad Western countries who would then be punished!

That bring's to mind the old saying "like shooting fish in a barrel". Notice around the 1.05 mark the pirate seem's to be having a really bad day.

Shucky-darn; I'd like to sign up for a cruise like that if the price included all the ammo I could shoot. The only good pirate is a pirate that's met Davy Jones!   ;D

A couple of Barrett 50 BMGs would have done a better job, by going completely through the boat and piercing the bottom sinking it.  But these guys did a very good job with what they had.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I like that they didn't even slow down a little, and then just kept going. Proper conduct in my opinion.

YEP, agreed Sir. Surely blood was spilled and the boat probably sank. Sharks gotta eat. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

All should realize - though some types won't care - that there is backstory to how the piracy got started - those people had their previous livelihoods ruined by Europeans dumping toxic waste in their fishing waters since the early 90s, ruining catches and sickening people ashore. I wonder how we'd have reacted if some large powers offshore did that to us?

That said... for repelling pirates... yeah, a couple mounted Ma Deuce would be about right... better reach than an RPG, and as pointed out, great penetration!

Security on a freighter/tanker would be a great gig, esp if you get a nice stateroom to go with.

That may be part of it, but that's been a high piracy area for a very long time. It has more to do with it being a trade route that can easiliy be tapped and a country without a government, which makes it easy to be a pirate in Somalia.

Only thing I would suggest is lube all bullets with sausage grease before shooting pirates.

YEP. It's not like they can't do other things to put food on the table. How many of them actually work for a living?? How many raise a garden for food?? I reckon it's ok if the American Indians, real Americans, started stealing and killing folks for what happened to them many years ago??
About time these sons of satan got what they deserved. I need to file that link somewhere so I can rewatch it every once in a while because I found it uplifting. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

Absolutely no Situational Awareness.  Wooden pallets against the ship's railings for what?  Cover?  To stop bullets?  That's a joke.  They should have let the second skiff get a whole lot closer to the ship. Ten to one they didn;t hit anything in the 2nd skiff at all.  After the first skiff, even when it is in the ship's wake, these "Shooters" are seemingly firing at random.  Bullet wasters.

Bullet wasters.

Bet the owners of the ship/cargo would have gladly paid $1k/round...

It looks like they did get the job done. That's really what matters.

I think the pallets may be to make them less visible.

My only comment on the guns is that I'd have preferred scopes or at least a dot for distances like that, some of those shots were 300 yards away, at least. And I'd probably want something with more power, assuming they are using .223. If I had guns like that, I'd have probably been shooting even more.

well, they did the job. The job wasn't to score some kills, it was to keep the ship safe. Like a B-17 waist gunner blasting away... if it keeps the bad guy away, mission accomplished.

In the heat of the moment, in a high Pucker Factor situation, all Amped Up, Yes, they got the job done AND made a video of it, which will probably go viral and get them a Guest shot on Glen Beck TV...I would like to have seen more hits and less spray and pray...but then I am Old School and a Sniper.  The 1st skiff ramming the ship, probably due to incapacitated operator (well done shooters), was disturbing that they got so close, but then, Pirates are not reported to be suicide Bombers.

The security didn't come cheap. The company can no doubt afford a couple of Barretts and would probably have used them if they could. I'm sure they thought things out a little bit at least; note their heavily sandbagged position and spotlights.

It may have been stipulated in their contract (or advised by legal council) that only light weapons be used. Blasting them with a scoped .50 BMG rifle at 300 yds might be viewed by some as more offensive than defensive. Spraying 500 rounds of 5.56 "in their general direction" with iron sights would probably be seen as okay, even if one of the poor guys in the skiff stopped a stray bullet or three.

Note that the man in charge never said to fire anything but "warning shots" and there appears to be no definitive evidence in the video that the pirates were killed. If there were (and if the camera man were smart), that footage would have been erased.

Come to think of it, we can only hope that a whole bunch of similar footage is being erased.  ;)
