When President Nixon made prejudicial remarks about Manson during his trial, and Manson made an incident out of showing the headline to the jury, it nearly derailed the trial.  Yet another Presidential history lesson our legal schollar in cheif missed during his time in academia.
Obama's remarks didn't help the jury selection process one bit.

I am sick of the double standard where blks are better than whites, If that had been a white boy that got shot it would have been all over by now, and when the blks get their way, it will be a license to kill, rape and murder, whites will no longer be able to defend ourselves per fear of jail and jail for a white man means death.

I tendto agree with the charges.
The first investigating officer wanted to charge "Z" with manslaughter--which I personally thought was justifiable based on the first reports of the incident.
It was a perfect storm and Zimmermann pushed the envelope in the first place.

From the first moment of this reporting I wondered what was Z thinking?
It appears to me that Z was exagerating his position and got more than he bargained for.
The shooting was because Z was in fear of his life but what preempted this perfect storm? I think Z was the instigater of the whole affair---don't think he should have been attacked but that is what you sometimes get when you choose to push.

It appears that special prosecutor bows to mob rule...
« Reply #35 on: April 12, 2012, 12:23:10 AM »
The special prosecutor in the Zimmerman case appears to have buckled to the desires of an unruly mob.  Are the politicians of Florida afraid to try the case in a regular manner ?   Is this why she chose to charge directly, rather than to allow a grand jury to hear the case ?  Are they ready to throw the defendant to the wolves..so they can avoid entering into a long, hot summer ?

Some unaligned attorneys seem to think a 2nd degree murder will be very difficult to prove, so they have their doubts as to a clear conviction.  Additionally; will a jury be intimidated by the threats of violence ?
Personally, I believe the circumventing of the regular grand jury system will prove to be a regrettable decision..

    http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/04/11/11147895-second-degree-murder-charge-against-george-zimmerman-in-trayvon-martin-shooting-surprises-legal-experts?lite

NOTE:  PMS-NBC...in their usual "fair & balanced" news reporting, still shows Travon Martin in his 'little boy' picture..

It seems most often we see them showing photos as below..Zimmerman = mugshot  ...  Martin = grade school photo.
PMS-NBC wouldn't try to influence public opinion would they ?  Do you see that as I do..an outright lie ?

I wondered about that myself. Did they quit taking pictures of Martin when he turned 14? I was really impressed by his parents and their  lawyers when they asked that everyone stay calm and let the legal system do it's job. It's too bad they have people like "Rev." Al and Jesse exploiting  the situation .

I think the whole thing is a distraction from what is really going on; the country is under assault from a pair of black ne'er-do-wells by the names of Obama and Holder and the very life of the country is at stake.

It sounds like Zimmerman was the aggeressor  here without reasonable cause and was told to back off by the cops.
Not good for Zimmerman ! I'd could see 25 years easy.

I heard the press conference yesterday about it, and the head of the new prosecution team said that it was the governor who appointed them, and the old prosecution head "recused" himself. In other words, the process is tainted by politics and I don't think that Zimmerman can get a fair trial partly because of extra-legal intervention in the case by the state executive branch.

Most of the language was "justice for the victim", which the new prosecutor identified as the kid. It was never even implied that Zimmerman may have been a victim here, but it was clearly said that they would not have made the arrest and the charges unless they have sufficient basis for a conviction.

I don't know what the facts of the case are, but it seems that there has been so much negative publicity targeted at Zimmerman that it will be hard to find a jury that is untainted by that publicity. Either that or they are hermits or somehow incompetent.

Another thing mentioned repeatedly by the new prosecutor was that it's not unusual for a delay in making charges in murder cases. That makes perfect sense if the people involved were not clearly known, and only a suspect was identified and an investigation was needed to identify and charge the suspect. But it doesn't seem to make sense in a case like this where the facts of the matter were relatively simple and all parties involved were known.

Are there any lawyers here that can give a little big picture insight into how these highly publicized cases work?

Also, I have heard examples of how NBC edited the 911 call, and I'd like to know whether they can be held responsible for that. The changes were very significant. And the use of flattering vs unflattering photos has been done apparently purposefully.

In this morning's news summaries of the press conference, the common sound bite was the new prosecutor saying that "We do not prosecute by public pressure or by petition." But that is clearly preposterous because her team was appointed by the governor.

I hope that everyone that is following this case realizes that this could happen to them. If you are focred to use deadly force in the defense of your life against a minority then you could be the next George Zimmerman regardless of the particulars of the situation.

There was, and there was a link to it here. But I suspect that it's all changed now that he tried to cut a deal by himself and his legal team withdrew from representing him. Foolish move on his part, but I'm sure he was scared to the point of confusion.

I don't know about the two prior attorneys that ran their mouths and cast Z aside, but his new attorney is one of the best in the state, Mark O'Mara.    He has been both a prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney and has an excellent reputation and record.   For contributions I believe Z's website,  http://therealgeorgezimmerman.com/ is set up for PayPal contrubutions.     He has stated that he knows other websites have been soliciting for contributions but he has not seen any of that.   check out the website.

What makes you so cock sure he is innocent? So cock sure you are willing to give the guy your hard earned money? I see no reason to throw money at something like this till the jury speaks. When the facts come out and you are ashamed of yourself how you plan on getting a refund.

He will get some pretty good representation before this is over, especially if he is innocent of the charges. News cameras draw attorneys like fly's to horsespoop. If the prosecution has a very good case the top drawer attorneys will stay away. Why would you get involved in a lost cause for no money?

When this is over there will be plenty of time to get the lawyers paid.

TM said!
No doubt in any black mind, or my mind for that matter, had it not been for the 'black activism' on the event...the whole event would have gone to memory hole just as most do. Whites think of this as singular stand alone event__ __blacks think of this event in context of their greater history connected.

So after the Civil Rights movement and equality for all, who is thinking right? Shouldn't this be a stand alone event and handled in the courtroom. If it warrants going to trial, and not the press or some radical movement like the B. Panthers, NAACP or the SPLC? weighing in on it. History is fine, but it's just that! History. All peoples have a history. Some they can be proud of and some not. With all the different versions coming out of the media about Zimmerman's actions, it's no wonder people have taken different sides in this story.
I don't see how they can ever come up with an impartial jury.

Mrcooper,
You, and I assume others, want to send him money for his defense?  Why?  Didn't neighbors report a protracted verbal altercation that ended with the kid's being shot?  This was not an instant life or death decision by Zimmerman as he was being attacked with overwhelming force.  He killed an unarmed kid that had a legal right to be in that place unless there is some information that I have missed.  Cases like this hurt the pro-gun cause because they turn public opinion against guns.  You know the arguement so I won't repeat it.

Well we know all this got started when NBC edited the 911 tapes to make it look like a racial incident.  How do we know this?  They were caught at it, then NBC fired the guy that did it.  NBC has failed to admit any wrong doing, but their actions speak for them selves.  Then the news media used pictures of the man from when he was a kid of 12 or 13 to portray a kid being killed to pull on every ones heart strings.  He's 17, not a kid.  The typical age of a Florida Pot Smoking wanna be Gangbanger.  From the things he said on his twitter account he was just looking for a place the bust loose.  The news media also used a picture of Zimmerman that had been cropped to make it look like a police mug shot.  Almost instantly in the court of public opinion Zimmerman was guilty.

I looked at the fact the police did not arrest him at the spot.  In a case like this the police look for any reason the haul the guy in and book him, usually to the point of going overboard.  There was a lot of information that was not reported by the news media, that later came out.  Two Eye Witnesses have came forth, and both say Zimmerman was being beat up by the man wearing the hoody.  The man wearing the hoody was beating Zimmerman's head against the pavement.  Having your head pounded against the pavement is a deadly situation, it can kill you.  So Zimmerman was justified in shooting the person beating him, he had to stop the pounding of his head against the pavement, or die.  That is a case of self defense.  Pictures confirm Zimmerman had cuts and bruising on the back of his head.

Now the Media, the Black Racist Radicals have jumped on this and are using it to incite racial tensions.  Even our President (who was out of line) has helped incite racial tensions by commenting on this situation against Zimmerman.  Our racist Attorney General has refused to do anything about the bounty placed on Zimmerman's head by the New Black Panthers, or the riotous speeches and attempts to incite riots over this.  Now a prosecutor has decided to bring Zimmerman up on Second Degree Murder Charges.  In my opinion (based on my feeling, not on fact) this Prosecutor was told to bring these charges forth, in the hopes of quelling a race riot.  Zimmerman is being cast to the dogs as a sacrifice, to quell the thirst for blood by the public, created by the Pro Gun Control News Media.  The very first reports said Zimmerman was hiding behind Florida's "no requirement to retreat law".  This is being used by the News Media as another point for more gun control.  And it's working, there are calls to reassess Florida's and other states gun laws.

There is conflicting reports that Zimmerman had and had not retreated like he was told by the 911 operator.  Zimmerman told the police he had retreated, and was attacked when his back was turned.  The 911 tapes that first claimed the Black man wearing the hoody was screaming for help, was later corrected to be Zimmerman screaming for help.  As for calling this man a kid, no at 17 he is not a kid.  I've been shot at by men 16 and 17 years old.  If he is old enough to smoke pot he is not a kid.

Got this from Zimmerman's web site: "People have a right to their own opinions, but not to their own facts. Evidence must be located, not created, and opinions not backed by evidence cannot be given much weight" - James W. Loewen

I for one will donate for Zimmerman's defense.

Im was in hopes that "justice" could be accomplished..wherever the chips fell, but I lost confidence in that idea when the prosecutor chose to skip the grand jury process.  As I see it they may be trying to throw this guy to the racist wolves.  A grand jury would at least give the appearance of doing what is right.  The old saying is that a prosecutor with any skill or case at all could easily " indict a Ham sandwich"..   so what are they afraid of ?
The parents of Trayvon seem to be some of the more level headed ones and I believe they could settle for "justice" wherever it is.. but then the Sharptons, Obamas, Farrakhans & Jacksons throw gasoline on the fire..
Under these conditions, I would be surprised if he gets fair treatment..

Sadly, all too often it's not who's inocent or guilty but rather who has the best attorney that wins. It promises to be more of a three ring circus than a reasonably fair trial. If they would drop the convenient race card and stick to the question of who first instigated the trouble and whether Zimmerman was justly in fear for his life then there might be a seblance of a chance for a fair trial. However then the media and those like the Black Panthers, Al Sharpton and Jesse "hey look at me Jackson" wouldn't have much to wag their tongues about would they? Gee, wouldn't that be a shame? Imagine, just the known facts being stated, anyone wanting to run their mouths just to draw attention to themselve's silenced! Nahhhhh, never gonna happen!

My wife pointed out last night that the news(at least the local news anyway) was now calling Zimmerman hispanic rather than "white/hispanic". I guess now that he is being charged with murder he is allowed to be fully hispanic again.
