Problem with T/C Warne Maxima mount
« on: January 28, 2004, 04:53:56 AM »
I just purchased a Encore 209x50 stainless lam and the T/C Warne Maxima mounting system. I put the four mounting screws in the mount and and started to tighten the Torx style screws down with a Leupold Torx screwdriver. The first two screws stripped, now matter how much I turned the screwdriver they never got tighter and now then wouldn't unscrew. I didn't bother trying the other two screws. I am use to the Torx screws as I have mounted the Leupold Duel Dovetail system on ten different handguns. I was wondering if I have soft metal in my screws or would it be a problem with a Encore 209x50 barrel. Has anyone else had this problem? I contacted the T/C service dept and they told me to sent them the barrel with the Maxima mount still attached. I appreciate any insight to my problem. I haven't contacted Warne yet. Thanks. Rod

Without looking at the barrel, it would be hard to say which stripped, the screw or the hole.  I could be the screw was too long for the hole, soft screws or loose holes.   It looks like T/C is going to handle the problem so I'd wait and see what they had to say.  Good luck.

I sent the barrel back to T/C. They remounted the base, and Dave at T/

C told me tha the Warne Maxima mount must have a soft screw. T/C fixed it for me and returned my barrel, all within 7 days. Rod

Hmm, sounds strikingly similar to my post "This sucks . . ." on this same page.  I'll probably be calling T/C tomorrow.  Was wondering if they would want the base still attached when it was sent to them.  Now I have my answer.
