I live in the heart of Amish country here in PA. Right about the time I moved here PA changed the law, requiring Amish buggies display electric lights, front and back, at night. Just prior to this law passing, there were several bad accidents involving cars and trucks verse horse drawn buggies on dark back roads that resulted in the deaths of entire Amish families.
There have been more then a couple times I have been driving at normal speeds on dark back roads, and come around a corner, only to be surprised by a buggy in the road. Those bright flashing lights make a difference.
While on the topic, It gets a little tiring avoiding horse crap in the road, especially on the bike, and those bare steel wheels they use on their tractors sure don't do much for the pavement. Give em credit though, got to have guts to put your family in a wood buggy, and travel down busy roads with cars and trucks flying by while you are being pulled by a horse with the IQ of a smart cat....
