What is your exercise program to stay healthy.
« on: April 13, 2012, 02:19:57 PM »
I belong to a gym and get there at least 3 times a week. While there I bike, jog on threadmill, do stair stepper, lift light weights and do some yoga stretching exercises. My blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar have all dropped.

I'm a calesthetics man.  Pushups, pullups, squats (no added weight), bridging, all that sort of stuff.  I also run but not all the time.

Was introduced to the crossfit program, tough on an old man but well worth it. High cardio. Last year I ran the 5k. If someone had told me I would be able to do that I would have laughed, especially after a heart attack.
Since July of 2011 I have had 4 surgeries the last being 3 weeks ago for prostate cancer. All that has slowed me down but I would like to resume when and if I get all the problems from bad living behind me.

I had the prostate surgery a little over a year ago. It took me several months to get it all back, but I did. Hang in there. Exercise is one of the best relapse preventive treatments after prostate cancer.

Huge cholesterol, mostly genetics - after unhappy visit to doc, I've cut out most sugars and fats, waaaay down on salt (nothing in a bag or can) and I ride a mountain bike quite a lot. Drink very, very little alcohol... but a buddy from church had me over for dinner last week and I did have two glasses of his homemade beer - that stuff was stout (and good).
Hey, whaddya know... weed doesn't cause cholesterol at all.

Oh yes; venison, being lean, is exempt from my verboten list. I've still got a bunch in the freezer, and can't quit that, because I'm not going to stop hunting.

hang in there, Briarpatch - hope the recovery continues unabated!

I go to the gym at least three days a week.  Most weeks I go five days.  I work out on the total gym lifting weights the physical therapist set up for me.  Then I do some more my son (the body builder) set up for me.  After I finish down stairs with the total gym I move upstairs to the Nautalis Equipment.  Again I do some things my son set up for me.  After I finish I ride a recumbent bike for 30 minutes.  There are TVs in front of each bike, and sometimes I get engrossed in a movie or a program and don't watch the time, next thing I know it's been an hour or more.  That's OK.  My problem is I have a food addiction, I love to eat.  Still weigh 240, have been there for three years.  Oh I dropped down to 230 when I went to Florida last winter, but gained it back as soon as I got home.

I usually spend an hour to an hour and a half at the gym.  Then I'm off to go somewhere and do something.  Monday I went for a five hour snowmachine ride.  Tuesday I plowed snow off driveways for four hours on a 4-wheeler.  Wednesday I again went for a snowmachine ride in the mountains.  Thursday I plowed snow again, and waded through snow knee deep to pull out a trailer.  That took three hours.  Today I spent two hours at the gym, then had two doctors appointments, then a meeting with a biologist at Fish and Game for an hour.  Met the wife for lunch, picked up new crank bearings for my old bike.  Came home and installed them.  Now waiting for the wife to get home, we are going for a bike ride out on the flood plain.  that will take a couple of hours.  No plans for the weekend, just wait and see what happens.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I do 75 situps, 80 pushups, 45 leg lifts and various other calisthenics almost every day.  I also ride a bicycle about 15 to 20 miles a couple times a week, but my main activity is sea kayaking.  Yesterday I paddled for four hours straight without a stop (about ten miles), and most of the time was spent paddling against a very strong current.  Then I had to carry my 19 ft. kayak on my shoulder about 100 yards to my vehicle.  That would have been a pretty good workout for me when I was 18.  I'll be 69 in three months.

I have been running for a long time.  I can run a 4.5 minute mile.

My eyesight is acute having been told its the best ever tested.

I carry a 10 lb rifle because when climbing the mountains its steadier to shoot.

I shoot at long range (700 yds) with a 338 RUM and others.  Some Kahles scopes here.

 8) :) ;D

At 76 years old I go for a walk every day . I use the gym equipment with the low weights. My doc told me not to run as I did when I was 60. By cutting back on food for the past two years lost 25 Lbs so down to 205 Lbs. At six foot could drop a few more pounds. Two weeks ago shot some prairie dogs but missed some that I would not have missed a few ago.

I am 6',4" and weigh 245.  One fist of iron and the other of steel.  If the left one don't get you then the right one will.

My regimen varies with the seasons. Gym during the winter. Running and biking and weights during much of the rest of the year. Hunting and long walks while fishing at times.
